Among the founding marshals of the Republic, Peng Dehuai is famous for his severity and integrity. He is serious and hates evil, but the most famous is his irritable temper. As long as he encounters something wrong or something, even the king of heaven will curse him.
But things often have exceptions. Among the many generals, one of has always been respected and admired by Peng Dehuai, that is Marshal Zhu De . Zhu De and Peng Dehuai, one is the marshal in the Republic, and the other is the marshal in the Republic. The two are very close and can chat with them.
Peng Dehuai and Zhu De
1974, Peng Dehuai died of illness, When Zhu De learned of his last wish, he burst into tears: "Why don't you tell me!"
What exactly was Peng Dehuai's last wish before his death? Why did Zhu De cry out loud?
Peng Dehuai and Zhu De care about each other
Peng Dehuai and Zhu De met at the end of 1928. At that time, Peng Dehuai and Teng Daiyuan led the Red Fifth Army and the Red Fourth Army led by Chairman Mao and Zhu De to successfully meet. At that time, "Zhu Mao Peng Huang" was the four leaders of the Red Army that scared the Kuomintang reactionaries.
During the Anti-Japanese War, Peng Dehuai and Zhu De were also very close. They fought side by side and lived all the time, and the people in the Taihang Mountain Base often linked their names together. Anyone who talks about Zhu De will definitely talk about Peng Dehuai; anyone who talks about Peng Dehuai will definitely talk about Zhu De.
In work and life, Zhu De and Peng Dehuai cooperated tacitly and were inseparable. It is enough to see from just a telegram and document that the names of the two were often connected at that time. For example, on November 15, 1937, when Liu Bocheng and Xu Xiangqian reported to Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and Ren Bishi about the ambushing of the enemy troops by two companies of our 769th Regiment, the title of the telegram was always Deputy Commander-in-Chief Zhu Peng.
Zhu De and Peng Dehuai are not only "inseparable" in the telegram, but also care about each other in daily life.
Zhu De
In early November 1937, the Japanese army had just occupied Nanti Pass , and then invaded Taiyuan. The headquarters of the Eighth Route Army was preparing to retreat. During the transition, Zhu De directed the soldiers to fight against the enemy while studying how to walk and how to solve the problem of support. In addition, Zhu De also needs to consider a series of major issues such as opening up and building bases, and is often so busy that he has no time to eat and rest.
In order to give Zhu De more time and energy to think about these important issues, Peng Dehuai always discussed preliminary plans with Zuo Quan before the battle, and then asked Zhu De to study and discuss them. When the headquarters marched to the area of Shouyang County, Shanxi Province and was preparing to cross the enemy's Zhengtai Road blockade, Peng Dehuai hurriedly ran to both sides of the railway to reconnaise the terrain and select a suitable location to attack the enemy sideways.
At that time, east of Shouyang County was occupied by the Japanese army. Enemy planes frequently reconnaissed the movements of our army at low altitudes and bombed from time to time. The situation was quite dangerous. At this moment, Peng Dehuai repeatedly ran into the guard area despite his subordinates' obstruction and personally directed the soldiers to blow up the broken bridge and hit the enemy's side. After hearing about this, Zhu De quickly sent a correspondent to pass the message and ordered Peng Dehuai to return to his residence.
After Peng Dehuai came back, he said to Zhu De: "Boss, I am a teenager younger than you, so I should go to the front line to fight side by side with the soldiers. Only in this way can I defeat the enemy and complete the task of transferring to the Taihang Mountains. This is what I should do!"
Zhu De shook his head after hearing this and said, "Old Peng, am I worried about you! It is good to have this heart, but you can't be too reckless. If you think something happens to you, what should I do if these soldiers under you are? What should I do?"
Peng Dehuai
When the troops successfully arrive in the Taihang Mountains, every time they go to a place, the Eighth Route Army headquarters will send a working team to mobilize the local people and hold an anti-Japanese mobilization meeting in the villages and towns along the way.Peng Dehuai was worried that Zhu De would bring danger when he came forward too many times, so he took the initiative to speak at the mass meeting on behalf of the Eighth Route Army. Only at a relatively safe or secure conference would Peng Dehuai ask Zhu De to give a speech.
On the night of the autumn of 1938, the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army stationed in Guxian Town, Tunlu was suddenly surrounded by the Japanese army, and the situation was extremely urgent. After Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and others analyzed the current enemy situation, they quickly formulated a combat plan. Zhu De said: "Old Peng, you and Comrade Zuo Quan brought two and a half regiments of troops, took the equipment and broke through from the east and west sides first. I led a guard battalion to drag the enemy on the spot, and then covered the headquarters for transfer."
Finally, under the command of Zhu De, the soldiers used the local terrain to attract firepower to them, which successfully covered Peng Dehuai and Zuo Quan to break through the siege. After Peng Dehuai and Zuo Quan broke through the encirclement, they immediately turned around and attacked the Japanese rear, thus covering Zhu De and leading their troops to break north.
Under the wit and brave attack of our army, the conspiracy of "joint attack on the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army" planned by the Japanese army for many days was completely eliminated.
The friendship between Zhu De and Peng Dehuai is not one-way giving, but two-way. Zhu De also cares about Peng Dehuai very much.
One day, Peng Dehuai felt very uncomfortable due to a severe cold. Not only did he have a high fever, but his throat hurt so much that he couldn't eat. After Zhu De learned about this, he hurriedly called the doctor to visit him. After the doctor diagnosed, the doctor said, "Mr. Peng's disease is easy to treat and it is easy to treat, and it is difficult to treat."
Zhu De was made too hard by the doctor's words. He quickly said, "Doctor, just say it if you have something to say. What does that mean?" The doctor said, "Mr. Peng's disease only requires some sugar water to clear the heat and heat, but this sugar is not easy to make."
Zhu De laughed when he heard this, and said, "I thought there was something difficult? I just ordered sugar? I happened to have a little." Then he said to Peng Dehuai who was lying on the bed, "Old Peng, wait, I'll get it for you now." Then Zhu De gave Peng Dehuai a small bag of sugar he had to Peng Dehuai, which also touched Peng Dehuai.
Whenever Peng Dehuai goes out, Zhu De will bring chess and benches with him
Zhu De and Peng Dehuai not only cooperate and understand each other on the battlefield, but also care about each other in life. Sometimes they quarrel over "chess pieces". So what's going on?
If you know this, you will know that Zhu De and Peng Dehuai both like to play chess very much. They have experienced many battles during the battle years of Taihang Mountain . Zhu De and Peng Dehuai have different personalities, and their chess styles are naturally different.
When Zhu De eats the opponent's chess piece, he likes to use his own chess piece to sweep away the opponent's chess piece first, then take out the opponent's chess piece with his hands, and then line up the seized chess pieces in a row like looking at the spoils.
Peng Dehuai is different. When he eats the other party’s chess piece, he first smashes his chess piece on the other party’s chess piece with a "bang", and then takes out the other party’s chess piece. Peng Dehuai did not line up the captured chess pieces in a row like Zhu De, but was still on the table, which also made the chess pieces he had eaten very messy.
When Zhu De and Peng Dehuai played chess, Peng Dehuai liked regret chess very much. Whenever he encountered this situation, Zhu De would grab his wrist and say angrily: "You can't regret chess, let it go!" Peng Dehuai was not embarrassed to regret chess, but said straight to his neck and said, "You are stealing food, it doesn't count!"
Zhu De was angry and laughed when he heard Peng Dehuai's words. He said, "I will beat gongs and drums to tell the world when I eat your chess pieces? If you don't have the ability to chess skills, why do you still regret chess!" Zhu De was unwilling to give in at all, and Peng Dehuai refused to apologize. The two were in a deadlock for a time. That's right. If Zhu De and Peng Dehuai play chess, they will definitely fight from morning to dusk and sunset before closing their stalls and going home.
When Zhu De was sitting in the car before leaving, he said: "Next time we will fight for another 300 rounds, I will never be lenient. I will have good fruits when you are there!"
After the war of resisting U.S. aggression and aiding Korea ended, Peng Dehuai returned to the country, and Zhu De invited him and other friends to visit the Thirteen Tombs Reservoir. Zhu De had a habit of going out, that is, he had to bring two things, one was a hunting rifle and the other was a camp bed. If Peng Dehuai also went, then Zhu De would bring a small stool and chess.
The weather is very good this day. Zhu De and Peng Dehuai first walked around the Thirteen Tombs Reservoir for a few times. After talking about some things, they began to discuss whether to sit down and fight. Peng Dehuai said: "We have not had a long time to compete, and I don't know if your level has improved?"
Zhu De smiled and said: "If you don't play with you, there may be no improvement, but you just returned from triumphantly, and I'm afraid you can't stop your spirit!" Zhu De said this very modestly, but if he really played chess, he would not give in at all.
Just as the two were chatting, the servant had already set up the chessboard. The two of them face to face and immediately joined the chess game. Deng Xiaoping was also traveling to the Thirteen Tombs Reservoir with Zhu De and Peng Dehuai at that time, and he also brought his eldest son Deng Pufang.
Hou Bo, who was responsible for taking photos of the central leaders, followed them all the time. When he found that Peng Dehuai and Zhu De were watching next issue and Deng Xiaoping was watching, Hou Bo immediately pressed the shutter button, and there was a photo of them playing chess.
Hou Bo also named this photo, "General Zhu and Peng are in stalemate, Comrade Xiaoping is silent when he watches the chess."
Peng Dehuai and Zhu De play chess
According to people who worked at the Eighth Route Army headquarters,
"Zhu De and Peng Dehuai have the opposite personalities. Zhu De has a gentle temper and basically won't lose his temper. No matter what the staff around him make mistakes, he will not lower his face to teach others a lesson, nor will he curse. Despite this, they all admire Zhu De very much, saying that even if Zhu De doesn't get angry, he has the power of being trembling; but General Peng is not like this. He has a very big temper. Sometimes when he gets angry, he often makes people unable to get out of Taiwan."
Although Zhu De and Peng Dehuai have such a big temper, they have become good friends and good comrades-in-arms. After the Lushan Conference, Zhu De often asked Peng Dehuai to play chess
Zhu De and Peng Dehuai got along very well. One day in 1952, Peng Dehuai hurried back to Beijing from the Korean battlefield and reported to Military Commission and Chairman Mao. After Peng Dehuai arrived in Beijing, he had no time to rest, so he came to Fengze Garden in a dusty manner to report to Chairman Mao.
When Peng Dehuai's report was over, it was almost dawn. He immediately went to the guesthouse to prepare to take a shower and go to bed, but because he was too hastily back and did not bring a change of clothes, which made Peng Dehuai a little worried. Just as Peng Dehuai was about to go out with dirty clothes, the guard came to report: "General Peng, Commander-in-Chief Zhu De is here!"
Peng Dehuai immediately came out wearing a shirt, worried that Zhu De had been waiting for too long. You should know that as a professional soldier, Peng Dehuai pays great attention to his military appearance and discipline, so when meeting guests, he always dresses neatly to leave a good impression on the other party. But Peng Dehuai and Zhu De were too familiar with each other, and at the same time, he was worried that Zhu De would have something urgent to find him, so he hurried out.
Peng Dehuai knows Zhu De very well, He knows that Zhu De's schedule is regular, and he usually goes to bed early and gets up early, and never delays. After all, he is old and his body will not be able to bear it. Now that Zhu De is not sleeping, he comes to the guesthouse to find him, which also makes Peng Dehuai realize whether something important has happened?
Peng Dehuai just came out and was about to ask Zhu De if there was anything important, but Zhu De spoke first: "Here, this is my clothes, it may not fit, but the winner is to hurry up, you can wear it!" said that, and handed a quick set of clothes in his hand to Peng Dehuai.
It turned out that Zhu De learned that Peng Dehuai did not change his clothes after taking a shower, so he hurriedly brought his own set of clean clothes to the guesthouse.Peng Dehuai took the shirt and pants handed over by Zhu De, and said nothing, but paused for a while while holding the shirt and pants, and his eyes paused on Zhu De's face, and then began to change clothes quickly.
When Peng Dehuai tied the last button, he said without raising his head, "It's okay!"
is such an ordinary sentence, and there is no second sentence, but it makes the guards who witnessed everything feel a little hot and they almost burst into tears...
After the Lushan meeting, the Central Military Commission made adjustments, Chairman Mao was the chairman, Lin Biao, He Long, and Nie Rongzhen were the vice chairman, and Zhu De was also demoted to Standing Committee members. In addition, Peng Dehuai also left the leadership of the Central Military Commission and returned to the field.
On September 30, Peng Dehuai took his family out of Zhongnanhai , and then went to Wujia Garden in the western suburbs of Beijing to live. Peng Dehuai lived in Wujia Garden for a total of 6 years. During this period, while participating in the study of the Central Party School, he learned the ability to grow vegetables, was self-sufficient at home, and thought about construction issues.
After Peng Dehuai resigned, the only leaders such as Zhu De, Peng Zhen and Yang Shangkun went to Wujia Garden to visit him. Although Zhu De and Peng Dehuai fought side by side for a long time and the relationship between them was also very good, due to their personality, they didn't like to talk. Therefore, even when sitting together, the two rarely talk, but instead look at each other silently.
But when Peng Dehuai saw Zhu De visiting him, he was somewhat comforted. In Peng Dehuai's view, only comrades who live and die with him can understand their feelings, and Zhu De is one of them.
After the Lushan Conference, Zhu De often went to Yuquan Mountain to live. One of the important reasons is that it is close to the Wu Family Garden where Peng Dehuai lives. Zhu De lives at home. He often goes to Wu's garden to play chess, which also adds some color to Peng Dehuai's boring life. The fight between Zhu De and Peng Dehuai on the chess field also released Peng Dehuai's suppressed emotions.
Learning about Peng Dehuai's death wish, Zhu De: Why don't you tell me
Peng Dehuai was in poor health in his later years, and he was admitted to Beijing Hospital because of rectal cancer. At that time, a staff member found Peng Dehuai's niece Peng Meikui and asked her to go to the hospital to see Peng Dehuai. That day, Peng Meikui came to the hospital. When she saw her formerly energetic uncle lying weakly on the hospital bed, she choked and shouted, "Uncle, I'm here."
Peng Dehuai heard a familiar voice and quickly turned around. When he saw his niece coming, he smiled and said, "Meikui, you are here!" However, since there were two doctors around Peng Meikui at that time, Peng Dehuai didn't say much.
At that time, Peng Dehuai suffered from rectal cancer, and he often had bloody stools in . He only knew that he was sick, but he didn't know that it was cancer. The medical staff and Peng Meikui and other family members also hid it from him, worried that he would give up on himself after knowing the condition.
One day, Peng Meikui came to the hospital again to visit Peng Dehuai. When Peng Dehuai saw his niece, he said, "Meikui, what disease did I have? Why did I have bloody stools or bright red?" Peng Meikui didn't know how to answer, but just said, "Uncle, don't worry, this disease will be much better after surgery. Why do you disagree with the surgery?"
Peng Dehuai said, "I know something has grown in my intestines. I don't want to have surgery. I want to meet Chairman Mao first and talk to Chairman Mao. If I die on the operating table, I will die on the operating table. If that's the case, then I can't meet Chairman Mao, nor can I talk to Chairman Mao..."
Peng Meikui almost burst into tears after hearing uncle's words. She said, "Uncle, if you don't treat the disease now, how can you meet Chairman Mao? Your main thing now is to maintain your own body. Only when you are healthy can you meet Chairman Mao again!"
But no matter what Peng Meikui said, Peng Dehuai refused to agree to the operation, and in the end Peng Meikui left under the urging of medical staff.
htmlOn April 25, the staff called Peng Meikui again and asked her to do Peng Dehuai's ideological work well and let him undergo surgery.Immediately afterwards, the staff took out a note for Peng Meikui to show it, and said, "This is the note issued by Premier Zhou's instructions. Let him have surgery. You can go to the hospital and persuade him well."So when Peng Meikui came to the hospital again, he said, "Uncle, you should have surgery!" Peng Dehuai didn't say anything. Seeing this, Peng Meikui had to say, "This is approved by Premier Zhou, you agree!"
Peng Dehuai heard that it was approved by Zhou Enlai, and he quickly said, "Is this approved by Premier Zhou? Then I will do it, I will do it." Later, after surgery, Peng Dehuai's body recovered very quickly, which made him very happy.
But unfortunately, just a few months after the operation, Peng Dehuai fell into a coma again. It turned out that cancer cells invaded other organs as soon as possible, and the operation was useless...
Around September 1974, Peng Dehuai fell into a coma. During his coma, Peng Meikui visited the hospital several times. Sometimes Peng Dehuai knows her, but sometimes he doesn't. Once, the doctor had just given acupuncture on Peng Dehuai, and Peng Meikui arrived.
The doctor said to Peng Dehuai: "Look at who came from this? Can you still recognize it?" The doctor wanted to see if Peng Dehuai's consciousness was clear. Peng Dehuai said: "I know this. This is my eldest niece and my daughter!" This is the first time that Peng Meikui heard the word "daughter" from his uncle. He was filled with emotion for a moment and was very moved.
On November 29, 1974, Peng Dehuai died of illness at the age of 76. That afternoon, Peng Meikui was on the way to work, and suddenly several staff members stopped her and said, "President Peng has passed away. You can go to the hospital for a look..."
Peng Meikui couldn't believe what she heard. She was stunned in place, and she collapsed on the ground with a limp. After a long time, Peng Meikui realized that she hurried to the hospital just to see her uncle for the last time.
Everyone knows that Peng Dehuai is a very strong person, and he has an innate warrior quality. But after all, people are human beings, and when they are always soft inside, Peng Dehuai is no exception. It is reported that Peng Dehuai has changed his will three times, and everyone can see the changes in Peng Dehuai's thoughts.
Peng Dehuai talked about his niece Peng Gang three times.
The first time was in Zhongnanhai, which was a hot afternoon. At that time, the central government made a major decision to show in a voluntary form that cremation after death will not be carried out. Chairman Mao, Zhou Enlai, Peng Dehuai and others all signed their names on the agreement.
After returning home, Peng Dehuai brought Peng Gang and said to her, "Little Rabbit (Peng Gang's nickname), I'll leave this matter to you." Peng Gang asked with confusion, "What's the matter to me?" Peng Dehuai looked into his niece's eyes seriously and said,
"We decided to cremate after death today, leaving no body left. You can keep my ashes in the gourd of your hometown at that time. Then cover the gourd and throw it into the sea. I didn't have the chance to travel around the world before I died, so let me finish it after death."
In 1960, Peng Dehuai, who lives in Wujia Garden, was self-sufficient, not only planting trees and vegetables, but also fertilizing himself. He said to Peng Gang: "When I die, I will play a little role. You can bury my ashes in the soil and plant an apple tree on it. You can eat it after the apple is formed."
1974, Peng Dehuai talked about his affairs for the third time. He said to Peng Gang: "Before I died, I had a wish, that is, to be buried with your father. But they are all revolutionary martyrs, but I... I don't have the face to bury them..."
1996, Peng Gang wrote a report to the central government in accordance with Peng Dehuai's will, requesting that Peng Dehuai's ashes be moved back to his hometown and bury them with his two younger brothers. However, because the original cemetery was too small to be buried, this matter was delayed. It was not until December 28, 1999 that Peng Dehuai's ashes were transported back to his hometown by Peng Gang and several other relatives and buried with his two younger brothers.
In addition to these last wishes, Peng Dehuai also had a wish before his death, that is, he wanted to see Zhu De, but for various reasons, the two of them still failed to meet for the last time. It was not until Peng Dehuai passed away that Zhu De learned about his dying wish.
Zhu De cried bitterly and shouted to the empty room: "Why, why don't you let me see Mr. Peng? He is all dying. Can't even satisfy this wish..."
July 6, 1976, due to complications caused by colds, 90-year-old Zhu De walked through his bumpy and glorious life...
