After Peng Dehuai came back, he said to Zhu De: "Boss, I am a teenager younger than you, so I should go to the front line to fight side by side with the soldiers. Only in this way can I defeat the enemy and complete the task of transferring to the Taihang Mountains. This is what I should do!"

On the night of the autumn of 1938, the headquarters of the Eighth Route Army stationed in Guxian Town, Tunlu was suddenly surrounded by the Japanese army, and the situation was extremely urgent. After Zhu De, Peng Dehuai and others analyzed the current enemy situation, they quickly formulated a combat plan. Zhu De said: "Old Peng, you and Comrade Zuo Quan brought two and a half regiments of troops, took the equipment and broke through from the east and west sides first. At that time, a staff member found Peng Dehuai's niece Peng Meikui and asked her to go to the hospital to see Peng Dehuai. That day, Peng Meikui came to the hospital. When she saw her formerly energetic uncle lying weakly on the hospital bed, she choked and shouted, "Uncle, I'm here."

Peng Dehuai heard a familiar voice and quickly turned around. When he saw his niece coming, he smiled and said, "Meikui, you are here!" However, since there were two doctors around Peng Meikui at that time, Peng Dehuai didn't say much.

At that time, Peng Dehuai suffered from rectal cancer, and he often had bloody stools in . He only knew that he was sick, but he didn't know that it was cancer. The medical staff and Peng Meikui and other family members also hid it from him, worried that he would give up on himself after knowing the condition.

One day, Peng Meikui came to the hospital again to visit Peng Dehuai. When Peng Dehuai saw his niece, he said, "Meikui, what disease did I have? Why did I have bloody stools or bright red?" Peng Meikui didn't know how to answer, but just said, "Uncle, don't worry, this disease will be much better after surgery. Why do you disagree with the surgery?"

This is my eldest niece and my daughter!" This is the first time that Peng Meikui heard the word "daughter" from his uncle. He was filled with emotion for a moment and was very moved.

On November 29, 1974, Peng Dehuai died of illness at the age of 76. That afternoon, Peng Meikui was on the way to work, and suddenly several staff members stopped her and said, "President Peng has passed away. You can go to the hospital for a look..."

Peng Meikui couldn't believe what she heard. She was stunned in place, and she collapsed on the ground with a limp. After a long time, Peng Meikui realized that she hurried to the hospital just to see her uncle for the last time.

Everyone knows that Peng Dehuai is a very strong person, and he has an innate warrior quality. But after all, people are human beings, and when they are always soft inside, Peng Dehuai is no exception. It is reported that Peng Dehuai has changed his will three times, and everyone can see the changes in Peng Dehuai's thoughts.
