According to CCTV News, the South Korean General Staff Headquarters announced on October 6 that North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles into the eastern waters of the Korean Peninsula that day, with a maximum range of 800 kilometers. Previously, a medium-range ballistic missile with a range of 4,500 kilometers was launched, and crossed over of the Japanese archipelago. It is reported that in the past 12 days, North Korea has launched ballistic missile in total, which is equivalent to launching missile every two days. North Korea's continuous missile launching has put pressure on the United States, Japan, South Korea and other countries. In response, the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea and Japan have jointly issued "off-site statements" and held an emergency meeting of the Security Council to jointly condemn North Korea's launch of ballistic missiles.
The main purpose of North Korea's continuous missile launch is to target the return of the US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier battle group to South Korea. In addition, North Korea also carried out joint military exercises against South Korea, the United States and Japan. The United States led the convening of the UN Security Council meeting to discuss the issue of North Korea's missile launch. Against the backdrop of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the United States will still focus part of its attention on the Asia-Pacific region, and even use the UN to hold an emergency meeting of the Security Council with permanent members such as the United Kingdom and France to discuss the issue of North Korea launching medium-range ballistic missiles over Japan.
At the meeting, the US accused China and Russia of favoring North Korea's "illegal weapons research and development projects" and obstructed the Security Council's efforts to strengthen sanctions against North Korea. At the same time, the US also accused China of not criticizing the Pyongyang authorities for violating the Security Council resolutions. On the surface, the goal of the United States leading the emergency meeting of the Security Council is to target North Korea. In fact, the United States has pointed its finger at China and demanded that China choose the side to take sides on the North Korean issue.
After the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the United States, as one of the biggest beneficiaries, was arguing between Russia and European countries, while constantly raising interest rates, causing the US dollar to continue to flow back, reap European interests, and further consolidated the hegemony of the US dollar while striking the euro system. Against the backdrop of the global economic crisis, the US continues to harvest global assets by passing on risks. Now, White House is trying to repeat the same trick, hoping to open up a second battlefield in the Asia-Pacific region, and the most direct and effective reason is the North Korean nuclear issue. In the final analysis, the White House hopes to use the North Korean nuclear issue to pull China into the waters and thus seize political and economic benefits.
China has given a clear and powerful response to the US statement. At the meeting, China's permanent deputy representative to the United Nations Geng Shuang said that China has noticed the recent launch activities of North Korea, and also noticed that the United States and other relevant countries have held joint military exercises in the region many times recently. Against this background, the situation on the peninsula will inevitably become tense. It is obvious that China's statement is based on facts, and has made it reasonable and unbiased, and directly pointed out the key to the problem. As the initiator of the escalating situation, the US side should reflect on itself and should steadily advance through negotiations in the North Korean nuclear issue, rather than transferring the contradictions to other relevant parties through force deterrence. In addition, China also pointed out that the Security Council should play a constructive role rather than just exert pressure. Regarding China's statement, the Security Council fell silent at the scene.
In fact, the right and wrong of the North Korean nuclear issue is in the hearts of the people. It does not mean that the US will lead several so-called emergency meetings, and the international community will stand on the side of the United States. Among the "off-field statements" advocated by the US to condemn North Korea's missile launch, only 11 countries including the United States, France, Britain, South Korea, and Japan participated in the signing of the statement. It can be seen that most countries, like China, have not chosen to stand in the United States. As Geng Shuang said: "It is the United States that has recently strengthened its military alliances in the Asia-Pacific region, pushed up the risks of military confrontation, pursued double standards on nuclear issues, engaged in political conflicts, and poisoned the regional security environment." This sentence has expressed the voice of the international community.
