Among the older generation of revolutionaries in New China, the most unique one is probably General Xu Shiyou. From the early death captain to the later founding general, in his decades of military career, has written one passionate legend after another.
Xu Shiyou was born in a peasant family in Henan. When he was a child, he went to Shaolin Temple to practice martial arts. After he got down the mountain after learning, he accidentally beat the evil young man in Yumao to death, and he had to leave his hometown to join the army. He was initially in the ranks of warlords, and was disgusted by the inability to accept the corruption of the troops. He became a formal Communist Party member in 1927 and started his revolutionary career.

After joining Red Army , he joined the suicide squad many times with his good martial arts learned since childhood, dared to fight and fought hard, and played an important role at critical moments several times. Years of combat career have accumulated rich fighting experience for Xu Shiyou, but his temper is still as straightforward and hot as ever.
1936, Xu Shiyou was already the commander of the cavalry division of the Red Fourth Front Army. The next year, the party was correcting the influence of Zhang Guotao's mistakes. Because there were some deviations in the process, Xu Shiyou felt that he should evaluate Zhang and the 4th Front Army based on facts, but his meaning was not clearly expressed, and he misunderstood. In anger, he vomited blood and was admitted to the hospital.
In the hospital, he couldn't think of turning around, so he wanted to pull a team to fight guerrillas. After his old comrades found out about his idea, he felt that this move was very dangerous, so he reported it to the central government.
Although Xu Shiyou's behavior is considered bad, Chairman Mao felt that there was a reason for the incident and could not be generalized. At Chairman Mao's suggestion, Xu Shiyou and others were lightly sentenced. But he was still unhappy. Finally, Chairman Mao came to visit them. After a long conversation, the misunderstanding finally resolved.
Restore freedom Xu Shiyou, the first job arranged by Chairman Mao was to go to " Anti-Great ". Here, through learning from politics, military and domestic and international situations, Xu Shiyou felt that he had benefited a lot, which made him more determined that the revolution would be smooth.
Xu Shiyou, who had removed his ideological burden, devoted himself to the battle. He made outstanding contributions in the War of Resistance and the War of Liberation. In 1953, he entered North Korea to participate in the summer counterattack. He was awarded the rank of general in 1955.

Xu Shiyou's straight-tube personality is very clear. This founding general who almost led the team to fight guerrillas back then sometimes no one can do anything when the firecrackers get up! In 1973, a major event happened to our army, which was to exchange commanders of the eight military regions. What was going on?
At that time, my country established 11 large military regions, and most of the commanders of the military regions had been in their posts for more than ten years. They were very familiar with each other in the environment and their colleagues around them. This was actually not conducive to military management.
It is because after being in the same place for a long time, people will inevitably become slack. They like to deal with things according to old habits and old methods. They lack creativity, which will be unfavorable for development in the long run.
Secondly, because after getting along for a long time, subordinates are very clear about their superiors' personalities and character, and it is easy to meet their preferences. This not only affects work efficiency, but also easily breeds corruption and is not conducive to military construction.
So Chairman Mao and other central leaders felt that the military region should be rectified. At that time, the commanders of three military regions had just taken office for not long, so was only allowed to be transferred to the commanders of the other 8 military regions.

Chairman Mao sent these military leaders to Beijing for a meeting and explained the interests of them to everyone. This is a good thing that is conducive to the construction of our army. Don’t misunderstand or have ideological burdens.
The next day, when the exchange order was officially announced, before the meeting, Chairman Mao asked Wang Hongwen to name the name. Wang Hongwen looked through the list, and the first one was Xu Shiyou. He said: "Xu Shi Friend!" Logically speaking, the person who called the name should answer, but Xu Shiyou looked upward, staring at the ceiling, and his face was not good-looking.
Wang Hongwen had to bite the bullet and shout again. Xu Shiyou's temper came up, and the teacup in his hand was heavily placed on the table, making a bang.
Wang Hongwen originally wanted to establish his authority in front of the military commanders by name, but he was the first to kick Xu Shiyou. Premier Zhou, who was still on the side, took the roster and started lit up the commanders and other commanders.
Although Xu Shiyou looked down on Wang Hongwen, he still obeyed the central government's decision. He and other commanders completed the exchange within 10 days.
