They participated in the design and manufacturing of our Chinese helicopters and were interviewed by Premier Zhou on many occasions.
Hafei is located 20 kilometers south of Harbin. Founded in 1952, it is one of the 156 key construction projects during the country's "First Five-Year Plan" and one of the 156 projects assisted by the Soviet Union during this period. This is the first military factory built here by the People's Government after the founding of New China. During the War to Resist U.S. Aggression and Aid Korea, it mainly produced artillery shells. After the war, it was changed to an aircraft repair shop. During the "First Five-Year Plan" period, with the assistance of the Soviet Union, the aircraft repair shop was expanded into an aircraft manufacturing plant.
Military factories generally have two names. One is the numerical code number of the superior authority; the other is the naming of the location of the factory. "Harbin Aircraft" was classified as "State-owned 122 Factory" by the Third Ministry of Machinery Industry in charge of the aviation industry. In Harbin, it was called "State-owned Weijian Machinery Manufacturing Factory", referred to as "Weijian Factory". In the 1980s, Later, it was renamed " Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Company ".
Mr. Liu was assigned to Hafei after returning from studying in the Soviet Union. From initial repairs to later imitations, the products were all Soviet-made aircraft, and all information and drawings were in Russian. During the "honeymoon" period of Sino-Soviet relations, there were Soviet experts in the factory. After the experts withdrew in 1960, in addition to continuing to imitate Soviet aircraft with reference to Soviet design drawings and process requirements, Mr. Liu, as chief engineer, led his colleagues to independently develop and produce their own products. Being independent does not mean relying on oneself. In addition to in-depth study and digestion of Soviet technology, we also need to learn and refer to the advanced technologies of Japan, the United States, and developed European countries. At that time, we had no diplomatic relations or personnel exchanges with most Western countries. We could not study or inspect directly, but could only learn about them through information. It was under such difficult conditions that Liu Shangde and his team successively built helicopters such as the "-5" and "-5". It has been equipped with the People's Liberation Army Air Force since the 1960s and has served for more than 20 years. By the early 1970s, some even provided direct assistance to several African countries for their heads of state to inspect in their own countries.
70 years have passed, and my country's helicopter manufacturing industry has developed rapidly. Both civilian and military aircraft have made remarkable achievements. "Zhi-5" has already entered the museum, "Zhi-9", "Zhi-10", new helicopters one after another have appeared one after another. The other one is Uncle Liu Zonglu. After graduating in the 1950s, he was assigned to work in the newly established Fifth Research Institute of the Ministry of National Defense. In 1999, China Aerospace Industry Corporation was reorganized into China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation and China Aerospace Mechanical and Electrical Corporation.
