At least 46 people have been found dead in an abandoned truck on the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas.
A dozen people in the car were found alive and have been sent to hospitals in Texas for treatment.
San Antonio is 250 kilometers from the U.S.-Mexico border and is a major transit route for people smugglers.
Once illegal immigrants successfully enter the United States, traffickers often use trucks to transport illegal immigrants after encountering them in remote areas.
This is not the first time such a horrific scene has occurred in the United States. In 2017, 10 immigrants were found dead in a tractor-trailer outside a Walmart , also in the city.
At present, 46 dead people were found in the truck, and 16 others were sent to the hospital for treatment, 12 of whom were adults and 4 were children.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said: "Human smugglers are callous people who have no regard for the people they exploit and endanger vulnerable communities for profit."

A large number of migrants come from Central American countries, fleeing local poverty and violence and reluctantly paying huge sums of cash to human smugglers to get them across the U.S. border.
