Australia's population is growing at a very fast rate!
The 2021 Census counted nearly 25.5 million people in Australia on census night, an increase of more than 2 million, or 8.6 per cent, on the 2016 census.
Australia's census population has more than doubled in the past 50 years, with the 1971 census counting more than 12 million people.
The populations of Victoria and New South Wales have declined during 2020, possibly as a result of the pandemic.
Other states, such as Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia, have experienced smaller population growth.

Baby boomers (55-74 years old) - 21.5%
Millennials (25-39 years old) - 21.5%
Generation of 25,422,788 people, an increase of 8.6% since the 2016 census.
Millennials have caught up with baby boomers to become Australia's largest generational group, the census shows.
There are more than 5.4 million baby boomers and millennials each, with the number of millennials increasing through immigration and the number of baby boomers declining.

Two-thirds of households own their own homes
Census results show that 66.0% of households outright own their homes or have a mortgage.
This number has changed little since 1996, when it was 67.8%. But what has changed, the ABS says, is the proportion of households that own their home outright.
More than 2 million Australians report having a diagnosed mental health condition. Mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety are the most common long-term conditions in Australia. Followed by asthma , diabetes , heart disease, cancer , etc.
The 2021 Census is the first time the Australian Bureau of Statistics has asked about diagnosed long-term health conditions.
India is the third most populous country of birth after Australia and the UK.
Australia has a growing Indian community, with nearly 22,000 more people reporting they were born in India in the latest census.
This puts India above China and New Zealand to become the third largest country of birth after Australia and the United Kingdom.
