Since the Russian-Ukrainian war, large numbers of Ukrainian war refugees have poured into Germany. In the states, whether in big cities or small villages, the number of immigrants is increasing rapidly. This has overwhelmed some communities.
In the hot spring town of Bernkastel-Kues, the residents' anger is heating up. The request for help from Bawu state was also ignored by the Ministry of the Interior.
In October 2019, a three-star hotel in the hot spring town of Berncastle-Cus was closed due to poor management. So the Lefar State transformed the hotel into an initial "reception" for the reception of refugees.
The state plans to accommodate up to 440 refugees in 143 hotel rooms. However, due to the overcrowding, the local Fusion Department also set up temporary beds for 680 people in a tennis court next door, and also equipped temporary containers with showers and toilets outside the hall.
In this way, 1,100 refugees lived in an area with only 500 residents themselves. But the local area doesn’t have to mention job opportunities, even a decent supermarket can’t be found.
Many residents signed petitions to limit the number of local immigrants. Even at a residents' rally, all the anger towards the Mainz state government was vented on the Fusion Department Secretary David Profit.
Not only because of the large number of refugees, critics also raised no objection to the 400 people staying in the hotel, but the tennis court to accommodate 600 people is simply an "industrial breeding" that treats people as animals, which is extremely inhumane.
The local clinic also supports the petition, and Dr. Christian Gores from the local clinic said: "We stick to our social responsibility. But tensions are spreading among employees and patients. Reception of 400 refugees is not a problem, but if it exceeds 1,000, it will have a negative impact on our clinic."
A nationwide, there are many more governments, cities and communities like this. German media believe that the allocation of refugees in the EU this time is not as effective as it came in 2015: for example, France only accepted 120,000 refugees from Ukraine, while Baden-Württemberg alone accepted 139,000 people.
As facilities such as school gymnasiums, hotels, tennis courts and other facilities are increasingly being temporarily requisitioned, it has brought more and more pressure to local residents. A petition from the hot spring town of Berncastel-Cus publicly stated: "If there is a mistake in the structural allocation policy, the refugees will not get help, and the additional 600 refugees should be redistributed."
However, the municipal authorities also said it was very difficult. Ralf Claus, mayor of Ingelheim, Lef State, said: "It is also difficult for us to accommodate refugees, especially those not from Ukraine. We often hear landlords provide us with apartments, but only those from Ukraine are requested.
Currently living in the Ingelheim Junior Reception Office "There are 300 refugees from Syria , Afghanistan and other countries, one third of them have to find a house by themselves. But they can't find them, and some of them have even been searching for more than two years.
In the end, we have no accommodation to provide new refugees."
