With the launch of the UK's "first" official hydrogen energy weeks, scheduled for February 13-19, 2023, hydrogen energy looks to be at a higher position on the UK's agenda.

With the momentum of hydrogen energy, the week plans to bring together stakeholders from industry, academia and government across the UK to celebrate hydrogen through awareness-raising activities.

Under the leadership of the Northwest Hydrogen Energy Alliance (NWHA), it aims to unite all regions in the UK to promote the country’s role in the emerging hydrogen economy and to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the industry to achieve net zero goals and drive green economic growth.

The launch of the UK Hydrogen Week is based on similar European initiatives that seem to have brought hydrogen to the forefront of discussion.

With the launch of the UK's

The third European Hydrogen Energy Week was held in 2022. European Commission Executive Vice Chairman Frans Timmermans said that support for hydrogen energy is deepening and said it is the top priority in the European green trading agenda.

2021 European Hydrogen Energy Week witnessed the launch of the Clean Hydrogen Energy Partnership, which took over all existing fuel cell and hydrogen energy joint project (FCH JU) with the aim of accelerating the development and deployment of the European hydrogen technology value chain. Commenting on the launch of the UK Hydrogen Week, Professor Joe Howe, chairman of

NWHA and executive director of the Institute for Energy Research at Chester University, said: "In the past few years, H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2H2 NRE, Cadent, Costain, Progressive Energy, Vertex Hydrogen, BOC, Inovyn and Kent have announced their commitment to the event.

"The first British Hydrogen Energy Week is coming too critical," said Clare Jackson, CEO of the British Hydrogen Energy Association. "The UK has an incredible opportunity to be a world leader in low-carbon hydrogen, but this can only be achieved when governments, industries and the public work together to make it a reality."

Jackson added: "We hope the UK Hydrogen Week can be a springboard to get more people involved in the amazing benefits of hydrogen in achieving net zero emissions!"
