United Nations Human Rights Council The 51st session held a dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the rights of indigenous peoples on 29 September. Ambassador Chen Xu, the Permanent Representative of China's Office to the United Nations Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, made a joint speech on behalf of countries with similar views, strongly condemning the violations of the rights of indigenous peoples, urging relevant countries to take their due responsibilities and restore the indigenous people to a late historical justice and justice.
A joint speech expressed deep concern about the serious violation of the rights of indigenous peoples in some countries, pointing out that relevant countries have brutally oppressed and massacred indigenous peoples in history, and some even committed genocide. The relevant countries are still implementing discriminatory laws and policies against indigenous people, occupying indigenous people's land and resources, and depriving indigenous people of all rights in political participation, medical care, education, employment, etc. Indigenous groups in these countries have long been facing systemic and structural discrimination and inequality, and their living conditions have further deteriorated during the COVID-19 pandemic.
jointly spoke urged relevant countries to take their due responsibilities, abolish discriminatory laws, policies and practices against indigenous people, investigate and hold accountable for violations of indigenous rights, compensate victims, and restore a late historical justice and justice for indigenous people. Calls on Human Rights Council , OHCHR and experts from relevant special mechanisms to monitor and urge these countries to correct their mistakes and take substantial measures to promote and protect the rights of indigenous peoples.
