Maltese authorities have announced that the country will lift its COVID-19 entry restrictions on 7 html January 25 .

According to Malta's official tourism portal Visit Malta, starting from 7html January 25, all travelers will be allowed to enter the country without restrictions. This means Malta will no longer require travelers to show proof of vaccination, recovery or testing on arrival.

" From 2022 year 7 html January 25 html People traveling to Malta without proof of vaccination or recovery will not need to present a negative PCR/ rapid test before arriving in Malta, " a statement from the Malta Tourism Board read.

Until the decision officially comes into effect on 7 html January 25 , all travelers to Malta will be required to hold a valid COVID-19 certificate.

The Maltese government noted that all travelers, regardless of their country of origin, are currently required to present proof of vaccination, recovery or testing. Furthermore, it is also stated that the certificate must comply with validity rules.

Currently the requirement to present one of these passes applies to everyone 12 and over.

Malta plans to waive its entry rules despite rising cases of COVID infections across the continent.

Malta has recorded 3,769 new cases of coronavirus infection in the past 7 days, the World Health Organization shows.

As for vaccination rates, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) shows that as of 6 htmlJanuary 30 1,248,452 doses of vaccine had been administered in Malta. ECDC further explained that 93.9% of Malta's entire adult population have completed primary vaccination, and a further 80.5% of the population have received their first booster shot.

While Malta is expected to lift its entry rules in two weeks, most EU / Schengen area countries have already done so.

The list of EU / Schengen area countries that have lifted all COVID related entry restrictions includes Austria , Belgium , Bulgaria , Czech Republic , Croatia , Cyprus , Denmark , Estonia , Finland , Greece , Germany, Hungary , Iceland , Ireland , Italy, Latvia , Lithuania, Norway , Poland , Portugal, Romania , Slovakia , Slovenia , Sweden and Switzerland .

All travelers, regardless of their country of origin, can enter the above countries even without proof of vaccination, recovery or testing.

Previously, the EU approved a 1200 0,000 aid measure for Malta to support Malta International Airport. The European Commission said in announcing its approval of the measure that it aims to compensate operators for losses suffered due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions between January 1 and January 30 .
