Reporters learned from the Intermediate People's Court of Shizuishan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region that the first instance of Dai Xianghui's bribery case, the former deputy secretary of the Ningxia Party Committee's Political and Legal Committee, was publicly announced a few days ago. Dai Xianghui was sentenced to years and 6 months in prison for accepting bribes of more than 35.08 million yuan.
The court found after trial that from 2007 to 2019, Dai Xianghui took advantage of his position as a member of the Party Leadership Group, Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group, and Deputy Prosecutor General of the People's Procuratorate of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, as well as the convenience of his powers and status to provide services to relevant enterprises and individuals. He sought benefits in case handling, business operations, project fund disbursement, loan approval, etc., and illegally received property from others, equivalent to a total of more than 35.08 million yuan in RMB.
The court held that as a state functionary, Dai Xianghui used the convenience of his position to seek benefits for others, or took advantage of the convenience created by his authority and status to seek illegitimate benefits for others through the behavior of other state functionaries in his position. The amount of money illegally received from others was extremely large, and his behavior constituted the crime of accepting bribes. Based on the circumstances of Dai Xianghui's crime and his confession and punishment, he was sentenced to 12 years and six months in prison and fined 2.3 million yuan.
