A small tornado occurred in Zierikze in the southwest of , the Netherlands, killing at least one person and injuring ten others. There are reports that there may be more casualties in the incident, but this has not yet been officially confirmed. The tornado also caused severe damage to several streets, prompting a large-scale deployment of emergency services.
Authorities are currently searching homes affected by the tornado and may find more injured people. One man has been taken to hospital. Police urged people to stay indoors and authorities issued an NL warning for the storm at 2.30pm, calling on citizens to "stay away from the area".
Local residents said the small tornado left a trail of destruction within two minutes. "It was a heavy blow. It happened within two minutes." The tornado damaged areas from the port to Malta , and local houses were damaged. To the devastation, the roof collapsed.
The tornado passed through Schouwen-Duiveland around noon. In Zirikzee, the roofs of five houses were blown off and trees fell. A house partially collapsed in Callandweg. Firefighters and other emergency services personnel then responded en masse.
