menu claims that the dough of "Black Gold Quicksand Buns" is blended with bamboo charcoal powder and coated with edible gold powder, but there are actually no two ingredients. Reporters learned today from the Huangpu District Market Supervision Bureau that Shanghai Charles Catering Management Co., Ltd. has been ordered to stop publishing advertisements and fined 4,800 yuan for violating the Advertising Law.

After investigation, the party involved, Shanghai Charles Catering Management Co., Ltd., has been using menus containing the introduction of "Black Gold Quicksand Bao" in each store since December last year, which it designed and entrusted Shanghai Yongshun Color Printing Co., Ltd. to print. A total of 4,800 copies of the menu were printed, with a total advertising cost of 1,200 yuan. The menu contains a description that "Black Gold Quicksand Buns incorporate bamboo charcoal powder into the dough, and are coated with edible gold powder when they are produced..." However, the actual "Black Gold Quicksand Buns" do not use gold powder or bamboo charcoal powder.
According to the relevant provisions of the Advertising Law, advertisements must not contain false or misleading content, and must not deceive or mislead consumers. Advertisers shall be responsible for the authenticity of the advertising content. The market supervision department stated that the ingredients and other information of Charles Catering-related products, as well as related promises, were inconsistent with the actual situation, constituting an advertisement that contained false content and was suspected of deceiving and misleading consumers.
As of the end of December last year, the parties involved had recycled the unused menus and destroyed them uniformly. The rectification has now been completed.
