On December 24, 2022, in the Galicia region of northwestern Spain, a bus fell from a 240-foot (approximately 73-meter) high bridge into the river while crossing a bridge, killing 6 people and injuring 2 others.
According to British media reports on December 25, 2022, this tragedy occurred at around 9:30 pm on Saturday (December 24, 2022), near the Portuguese border. Local La Voz de Galicia newspaper said the bus was carrying passengers to Monteroso, in central Galicia.

The bus suddenly plunged from a 240-foot (about 73-meter) high bridge into the river. Emergency services said there were eight people in the vehicle. Initially, two bodies were found first, while two others, including the driver, were rescued and sent to hospital.

The rescue operation had to be suspended overnight due to bad weather and rain, but resumed this morning. A spokesman for the National Guard in the city of Pontevedra, about 30 kilometers from where the accident occurred, said the site where the car crashed off the bridge was complex and therefore difficult to access.
Spain's Civil Guard later said two more bodies had been discovered earlier today. The woman's body has been recovered, but the man's body has not yet been recovered. Now, all six deceased have been found. On Twitter, emergency services posted a photo of a vehicle in turbulent water.

The National Guard also said the bus driver’s alcohol test was normal. The cause of the accident was not yet known, but bad weather may have played a role, they added. Galicia regional official Alfonso Rueda said: "We don't know the exact cause yet, but the weather conditions that night were really bad."
