What is the status of this company in Taiwan? What does its move mean to Taiwan? Take a look at several sets of data: in 2021, the export share of the semiconductor industry in Taiwan accounted for 34.8% of the total export volume on the island, and the annual output value of reached US$100 billion, accounting for 20% of Taiwan's total manufacturing industry. From January to July 2022, the output value of Taiwan's semiconductor industry was US$64.9 billion, an increase of 32% year-on-year, accounting for 70% of the world, which does not include its upstream and downstream supporting industries. It is no exaggeration to say that the semiconductor industry led by TSMC, especially those below 5nm and its upstream and downstream manufacturers, should be half of the Taiwan chicken!
TSMC's importance to Taiwan is self-evident, so why should we leave Taiwan and go to the United States? More people believe that it is the US government that forced TSMC's Chang Zhongmou and Taiwan's authorities Tsai Ing-wen! The author dare not agree, there are a few thoughts!
First, TSMC is a company. From a legal perspective, it should be free to go there or not. The nature of a company should be profit-seeking. In August this year, the " Chip and Science Act " passed by the US government clearly stated that the US government will provide $52 billion in subsidies for semiconductor production and research, and provide $24 billion in tax credits for chip factories investing in the US. Analysts pointed out that this bill is tailor-made for TSMC!
Secondly, after TSMC went to the United States, it set up factories in the United States to produce, increase employment, and bring taxes, which is common sense. The key is that everything is implemented in accordance with US laws and is easier to control, and at least in the field of semiconductor chip , it is better targeted in mainland China.
Third, with the rapid development speed of mainland China, the US government clearly realized that Taiwan’s return to the motherland is unstoppable. Even on the day of showdown, the possibility of the United States taking action is extremely low, because Taiwan is not the core interest of its country, it is just a pawn to counter the mainland! Instead of letting Taiwan return the jade to Zhao, it is better to empty it in advance!
