Shanghai Grand View Garden is based on one of the four great classics in China, " Dream of Red Mansions ". During the design process, Liang Yousong and his team not only did not completely copy the garden in the book to reality, but instead made many innovations.
From the layout, the Grand View Garden is mainly composed of the "Saiqing Villa" stone archway, stone lantern , Qinfang Lake, Tirenmude, winding paths Tongyou, palace gate, "Taixu Illusion" relief screen wall, wooden archway, etc., forming the central axis of the entire garden. On the west side of
, Yihongyuan, Rongcui'an, Lixiangyuan, and Shifang are set up. More than 20 groups of architectural attractions including Xiaoxiang Pavilion , Hengwuyuan , Liaofengxuan, Daoxiangcun , etc. are set up on the east side. After the design plan of
was released, there were both praise and doubts in society. Questions come from some citizens and Redologists: Where does the lake come from the Grand View Garden? Are Xiaoxiang Pavilion and Yihong Courtyard so far away? Isn’t a garden combining the north and south styles neither a donkey nor a horse?
Liang Yousong once patiently answered in an interview. In his words, he had a deep understanding of ancient architectural design , and also had a "live learning and application" of "Dream of Red Mansions".
He believes that "Dream of Red Mansions" writes stories of characters, not architectural design drawings. "If a garden building lacks water, how can it be a bad scenery? Since it is a tourist attraction, it should integrate the essence of Chinese garden art. With water, it will be exquisite and spiritual." Liang Yousong also analyzed that if the Grand View Garden really only has a ditch like someone said, "Then do you still let Yuanchun visit her? How can she do the royal dragon boat?"
Although Xiaoxiang Pavilion is a little far from Yihong Garden, there is a natural bamboo forest in the middle. The quiet environment can remind people of the image of Lin Daiyu "The wind moves the bamboo shadows, and it is suspected that it is a jade man coming."
At that time, this design had deeper considerations. In the 1980s, Shanghai's green space area was much lower than that of world-class cities. When the per capita greening area of Paris exceeds 30 square meters, Shanghai is still only 0.046 square meters.
Build a new scenic spot in Dianshanhu and designing antique garden buildings of a certain scale can not only improve the ecological environment of Shanghai, but also create a quiet cultural and entertainment environment for Shanghai people. After more than seven years of construction, pavilions and pavilions with carved beams and painted buildings quietly rose up on a rice field, with a total area of 9.33 hectares. The grand spirit and elegant decoration are the first of the new classical gardens since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
As for the mixed style of the north and south, which is called "non-donkey and not horse", Liang Yousong listed many scenery in "Dream of Red Mansions", which proves that the Grand View Garden is a "complex" that integrates the essence of southern and northern garden art. In the future, this mixed style will become an advantage to drive the development of the cultural and tourism industry.
The style of the royal garden and the elegance of the Jiangnan gardens have attracted many crews to come and film, including famous film and television dramas such as "Dream of Red Mansions", "Lin Zexu", "Jigong", " Book Sword and Revenge Records ", "Du Shiniang", "Yang Naiwu and Xiao Baicai". In the early 1990s, the Grand View Garden was called the largest "photo studio" in Shanghai by the film and television industry.
