Keating pointed out that the "Belt and Road" initiative has funded infrastructure projects in Baltic countries and Soviet countries.
The trillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative was initiated by China in 2013 to connect East Asia with Europe and beyond through connectivity and infrastructure projects. As of March 2022, a total of 147 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe, South America and North America have joined the China-backed global initiative.
Keating also believes that the era of "hegemony" of the United States as the world's largest country has passed. He said, "It is good for the United States to promote democracy in the 20th century. It belongs to the United States in the 20th century, but to others in the 21st century."
He also expressed doubts whether the United States would help Taiwan if Beijing promotes the unification of Taiwan and the mainland through military means.
