Scientific vision of the world, rich thinking and insight
Good evening, all readers and friends! I have previously introduced the causes of Earth's plate movement and the formation of major earthquakes such as Japan, which has caused heated discussions among many readers. Today we turned our attention to the United States opposite the earth. Scientists accidentally discovered a mysterious trench appeared on the seabed around the United States, alarming the entire scientific community...

In the Alaska waters, Professor Anne Bécel, a scientist from Columbia University, took a Marcus G. Langseth scientific research ship for routine exploration. When they used the high-resolution imaging technology they carried with them to survey the seabed, they unexpectedly discovered a once ignored submarine fault. After the scientists conducted an analysis, they found that this fault had amazing similarities with the trench that caused the earthquake in Japan six years ago...
This site is located between the gap between the Pacific plate and the North American plate. As the Pacific plate gradually sinks, it is inserted obliquely into the adjacent North American plate, forming multiple fault zones of different lengths and depths, called the Shumagin Trench. The reason for the 9.2-magnitude earthquake in Alaska that year was the same, both of which were in the Alaska- Aleutian subduction earthquake zone. The research was published in the famous publication Nature Geoscience.
In order to visualize the characteristics of the seabed surface, scientists used sound waves generated by air guns to scan the seabed, and surveyed and mapped the sea area piece by piece like CT. What makes the researchers uneasy is that the junction of the two major plates is extremely rough, and once sliding occurs, it will produce an impact force bonus. In addition, the number of fault zones is too large, and a slightly larger magnitude may cause large misalignment between faults and rapidly raise the height of the seabed.
If the above two points are still difficult to create a sense of crisis, then Professor Bécel's discovery is enough to shake the entire scientific community. The seabed rocks here are extremely dense and most of the surfaces are conical. When fault movement occurs, this special structure can efficiently promote the flow of seawater. Coupled with the high pressure in the deep sea, the flow rate is faster, and the water potential is stronger, which can easily trigger a huge tsunami. This is exactly the same cause as the Japanese tsunami 6 years ago!
Currently on Earth, scientists have only discovered these two such subsea structures, and its danger can be imagined! Obviously, the Shumagin Trench is located in the golden earthquake belt , but unfortunately, scientists do not have any good preventive measures. The only way is to wait for the earthquake to occur, collect data and analyze it... As the Pacific plate continues to advance, the earthquake belt is now highly active. One day, it will trigger a huge earthquake and bring about a tsunami no less than Japan...
