China News Service Haikou, March 18 (Reporter Hong Jianpeng) China's first sea-crossing bridge across earthquake-active faults - Hainan Haiwen Bridge 18 opened to traffic on the morning of the 18th, shortening the journey from Haikou City to the famous overseas Chinese hometown Wenchang Puqian Town from one and a half hours to twenty minutes. The Haiwen Bridge is currently the bridge with the highest crack and the largest basic wind speed in seismic protection in China, breaking through the technical difficulties of building super-large bridges in the extreme earthquake zone of and across the earthquake fault zone.

Haiwen Bridge started construction in 2015. The total length of the project route is 5.597 kilometers, the two-way six-lane first-class highway standard, the design speed is 80 kilometers per hour, the standard width of the bridge is 32 meters, and the total investment is 2.67 billion yuan.

Lin Dong, Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Transportation, said at the opening ceremony that the Haiwen Bridge spans Puqian Bay, connects to the Wenchang Coastal Tourism Highway in the east, and to the main area of Jiangdong Avenue in Haikou in the west. It is a traffic control project to realize the integration of "Haichengwen". The opening of the bridge solved the traffic bottleneck problem in the "Haichengwen" area and created traffic conditions for the integration of Wenchang, a hometown of overseas Chinese, to the half-hour economic circle of Haikou. The completion of the Haiwen Bridge will also be conducive to the development of tourism resources in northern Qiong and the improvement of Hainan's transportation and road network structure.

Deng Shaodong, a 72-year-old shop predecessor, specially returned to Haikou from Guangzhou to participate in the opening ceremony of the Haiwen Bridge. He recalled that when he was a child, he had to take a boat from front of the shop to Haikou, which took several hours. "If we encounter low tide, we have to get off the boat and pass through the mudflats, which is very hard."
