Ma Hongda told China Youth Daily China Youth Network reporter that in fact, the plastering and partition wall system project is not just as simple as "scraping putty", but refers to the use of paints, decorative materials, etc. to build, improve and renovate house buildings, testing the contestants' metal frame construction and gypsum board installation technology, as well as the use of sound insulation, heat insulation, fire protection, plastering, decorative line production and installation, and artistic creativity.
"At the moment I received the award, I criticized the five-star red flag. I proved to the world 'Chinese technology' and showed the style of 'Chinese youth'. I am very proud! I will always remember it!" said Ma Hongda.

Born in 2000, Ma Hongda is from Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province and is currently studying at Zhejiang Construction Technician College.
In the 2017 high school entrance examination, his father, who was a craftsman, suggested that he learn a technique with poor grades and could still "have a taste for it" when he entered society. "I love to do things more than theoretical study and do manual work, so I readily accepted it and chose to study Technician Academy ." said Ma Hongda.
Because I have been interested in art since I was a child and have some basic skills, in 2017, the teacher recommended Ma Hongda to participate in the college's World Championship Echelon selection. The teacher in charge of the selection at that time said something that impressed Ma Hongda: "If you want to participate in the selection, you must be prepared for hard work. This is not a shortcut to success at will."
The most indispensable thing for technical colleges is students who are willing to "take hands". Once the "recruitment order" was issued, more than 200 students signed up enthusiastically. Because the quota is limited, they are greeted by layers of strict assessment and selection.
"Since you have chosen this path, then do it well." Ma Hongda kept encouraging himself. He listened carefully during the day and seized every opportunity to ask the teachers around him. At night, he plunged into the training room and trained over and over again to improve his skills.
The process of preparing for selection is arduous: every day, it is accompanied by cement, gypsum board, bricks, and ceramic tiles. After half a day, the training clothes are covered with putty powder and dust. Many students could not bear this hardship, but Ma Hongda, who was self-disciplined and persistent, successfully joined the college's World Championship team, and established the direction of the plastering and partition wall system project.
In March 2019, at the selection competition of the 45th World Skills Competition in Kazan, Russia, held in China, although Ma Hongda made full preparations and successfully completed the competition, he unfortunately lost in front of Gao Yunxian, who was better than himself.

In September 2021, the national training camp for the 46th World Skills Competition of Shanghai officially kicked off. At this moment, Ma Hongda has been looking forward to it for too long.
He devoted himself to training, not only learning from books and coaches, but also constantly learning from the contestants around him.
One of the most important traits of Ma Hongda is that he is good at learning.He can always complete the training competition earlier than others. Then, he took advantage of his height of 1.8 meters to carefully observe the operating methods and tool placement habits of the players next to him, learn from his strengths and weaknesses, and further improve his operating procedures.
As a global event, the technical documents of the World Skills Competition are expressed in English, which also puts forward requirements for the contestants' English proficiency. "Although every project is equipped with translation, it is impossible to rely entirely on translation during the competition. If you can understand it yourself, you will definitely get twice the result with half the effort." After the daily training of
, the project translation will organize and record 8 to 10 short English sentences for contestants to learn, recite and apply. Although his English foundation is relatively weak and he has high-intensity training, Ma Hongda studied hard with the translation and took notes carefully. In addition, Ma Hongda will also learn some basic communication sentences by himself to enrich his vocabulary. Gradually, his English listening and reading skills were greatly improved.

In June this year, the 46th World Skills Competition in Shanghai was cancelled due to the epidemic. On the day he learned the news, Ma Hongda burst into tears: "It's not because of fatigue, but because of unwillingness."
In mid-October, Ma Hongda finally boarded a flight to Bordeaux, France as he wished to participate in the French station of the 46th World Skills Competition Special Championship.

On the court, Ma Hongda did not expect to encounter a "mysterious material" - a 6mm gypsum board. Materials of this specification adopt European standards, and are not available in the country and cannot be purchased.
In the competition, Ma Hongda first used a conventional method to fix the gypsum board, but unexpectedly, problems such as "the surface layer of the gypsum board" and "the screw holes cannot be fixed through", which caused the gypsum board to be unable to fit the stake line and was not beautiful.
Ma Hongda made a quick decision, switched the process, adjusted the process, and remade the wall. Although he wasted some time, he temporarily ranked third in this link. However, "this did not affect my mentality," said Ma Hongda.
