China News Network Heyuan July 24 (Yan Xinyang and Song Xiujie) According to China Earthquake Network, a magnitude 2.7-magnitude earthquake occurred in Yuancheng District, Heyuan City, Guangdong at 16:31 on July 24, 2022, with a depth of 8 kilometers. As of press time, there are no reports of casualties and property losses in the public.
It is understood that the epicenter is located at 23.73 degrees north latitude and 114.61 degrees east longitude. The average altitude within 5 kilometers of the epicenter is about 261 meters. According to statistics from China Earthquake Network, there have been 8 earthquakes of magnitude 3 or above within 200 kilometers around the epicenter in the past five years. The largest earthquake was a magnitude 4.1 earthquake that occurred in the waters of Huidong County, Huizhou City, Guangdong Province on March 14, 2022 (143 kilometers away from this epicenter).
According to the Guangdong Provincial Earthquake Information Network query Guangdong (1970 to 2019), there have been 58,633 earthquakes in Guangdong in the past half century, with magnitude 4-4.9, accounting for 0.38%; magnitude 5-5.9, accounting for 45 magnitude 5-5.9, accounting for 0.77‰. There are 6 magnitudes 6-6.9, and 2 magnitudes 7-7.9. The epicenter of this earthquake was also on the Heyuan- Shaowu fault zone. It is reported that the Shaowu-Heyuan fault zone starts from north to Chong'an in the north, connects to the south through Shaowu and connects to the Shicheng- Ruijin -Xunwu fault zone in Jiangxi, and extends southwest into Heyuan, Guangdong. (End)
