"Many familiar places have been destroyed. Fortunately, my relatives and friends in Yuli, my hometown are fine." said Liu Zhiqing, associate professor from Hualien, Taiwan, said.

Liu Zhiqing, born in Yuli Town, Hualian, Taiwan, is associated with Hubei in his doctoral thesis "The Life and Death Love of the Three Yuans of the Public Security Bureau". In 2017, he came to Hubei University of Economics to teach. After learning about the earthquake in his hometown, he contacted his relatives and friends as soon as possible, and all his relatives and friends were safe.

Liu Zhiqing told Yangtze River Daily reporter that he was born in Yuli, Hualien, Taiwan in 1980. His ancestral home is Zhangzhou, Fujian. His parents were both in Taipei during the earthquake and had relatives and friends living in Hualien. Local relatives and friends reported to Liu Zhiqing that the bridge deck of Gaoliao Bridge in Yuli Town, Hualian has been cut into several sections.
It is reported that the Gaoliao Bridge in Yuli Town, Hualian is an important local traffic bridge. On March 22 this year, the earthquake caused damage to bridge railings, guide railings, road surfaces and other facilities, and the road was closed and repaired in June.

Pictures and videos of Yuli Town, Hualien County taken by Liu Zhiqing's relatives and friends show that a building in Yuli collapsed due to an earthquake, and police and fire department personnel are conducting search and rescue. In addition, the railway platform of Dongli Town, which is adjacent to Yuli Town, was collapsed, and a train was also tilted on the railway tracks.
