According to CNN , Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on October 18 that after meeting with FIFA Chairman Infantino , Kanjuluhan Stadium where the fatal stampede was to be demolished and rebuilt.

On the evening of October 1, after a league match at the Kanjuluhan Stadium in Malang City, there was a riot in the field. Police fired tear gas while maintaining order, but it triggered panic among fans at the scene and caused stampede accidents, killing 133 people, including more than 40 children. An investigation team organized by the Indonesian government released a report last week saying that "excessive" use of tear gas was the main cause of death in the stampede. The report also pointed out some other contributing factors, including the stadium full but some exit doors locked, and league officials have scheduled the game to be held in the evening in order to win higher TV ratings.

President Joko Widodo also said that he has agreed to Infantino to carry out major reforms to the management of Indonesia football.
"We agree to completely transform Indonesian football." Joko Widodo said, "Every aspect of preparation... needs to be based on FIFA's standards."

FIFA President Infantino said in his speech that FIFA's top priority is to ensure the safety of players and fans in this Southeast Asian country.
He said: "This is a football country where more than 100 million people love football." "What we should make sure is that when they watch the game, they are safe."
Infantino said that FIFA will work closely with the Indonesian government to ensure that all venues meet safety requirements and ensure that the U-20 World Cup will be held smoothly in Indonesia next year.
