This allows HDMI-capable source devices to directly connect to HDMI-capable displays using USB Type-C connectors, without the need for tedious protocols and connector adapters or hardware protection devices to transmit the HDMI signal of the unit through a single cable.
Simply put, uses this latest USB Type-C to HDMI cable to allow devices with USB Type-C interface to directly connect to HDMI monitors and TVs, and no longer need an adapter.
HDMI adaptation mode specification will fully support HDMI 1.4b function , including 4K resolution, audio return channel (ARC), 3D, HDMI Ethernet channel and consumer electronic device control (CEC), and does not mention HDMI 2.0.

Many types of consumer electronics require a single solution to transmit audio, video, data and power, and USB Type-C is the preferred connector for such products. The release of this specification is a collaboration between the two most popular connectivity solutions at present, allowing users to avoid using adapters and converters when facing different interfaces.
"USB Type-C connectors are growing rapidly in the mobile phone and PC markets," said Rob Tobias, president of HDMI franchise. "Consumers expect to easily connect these devices to monitors with a USB Type-C to HDMI cable and use the performance and features of the native HDMI. This specification will lead to more source devices using HDMI."
According to him, this USB Type-C to HDMI cable will be officially launched as early as next January at the CES International Electronics Consumer Show.
