[Pacific Home Network Design Channel] On September 27, 2016, at the invitation of the home brand Nature Home , Mr. Huang Shuheng, a famous Taiwanese design master, attended the "Natural Home Original Design Salon and Original Design Product Launch Conference" Ningbo Station event as one of the main speakers. [PChouse]: What kind of opportunity made you start the road of design? When was the first to come into contact with design?

[Huang Shuheng]: The first to come into contact with design should be 30 years ago, because I studied architectural design myself, went to the UK to study and then returned to Taiwan. I was walking on the normal track of ordinary people, obtained an architect license in the exam, and even worked as a civil servant for two years. However, by chance, I entered the school to teach, and by some chance, I started a business very early and opened several companies. After years of cooperation, around 2004, I entered interior design, and from that time I officially started some of my own experiments and explorations in design.

[PChouse]: The outside world's evaluation of you is a luxury house designer. How do you understand luxury houses yourself?

[Huang Shuheng]: Rather than saying that I am a luxury house designer, I hope to say that I am recognized as a good residential designer. Because the so-called luxury house, in the most superficial understanding of ordinary people, represents a very high budget and will use endless addition elements to stuff all expensive building materials and expensive furniture into the space.I agree with what Teacher Zhang (Qingping) just said that luxury is innocent and neutral, it depends on how you feel and view it. If the organization of these things has exceeded your load and exceeded your physical or psychological endurance, making it unable to rest, or bring you a comparison and show-off, it will instead fall into a state of exhausting and continuous expansion of desires, and this luxury will definitely bring negative energy. But if you use some beautiful elements appropriately, it can highlight your life, remind you of some important beliefs at any time or remind you to enjoy it at some beautiful moments and experience the rich gifts given to us by the environment. Then I think this luxury, or the luxury space presented in this way, is definitely something that everyone yearns for. Of course, we hope to reach such a level and state.

[PChouse]: In many of your space works, art occupies a very important position. How do you better apply artwork indoors? Have some experiences to share with us?

[Huang Shuheng]: I think good artworks can definitely give a lot of points to the space, which also involves my arrangement and views on the layout of the entire space. Sometimes, I will play the role of a designer who charges and fights on the front line; sometimes, when encountering cases of large scale and large scale, I must take a step back and be the general who leads the overall situation. It also echoes some people's saying that you must leave a moderate blank space for good design. Especially when some cases become larger, if you do 100% of the design alone, you may not necessarily achieve a good design. Instead, it is moderately developed, set the basic conditions of the stage, and then cleverly implant different elements. What I mean is to invite experts from different fields and majors to participate in this stage and give us a performance. This is what I am doing role conversion and playing the director in the space, which sometimes makes me feel very interesting and happy. So I often invite young artists, florist teachers, or even mechanical engineers to create with me in the case. Of course, the premise is that the scripts of the space must be well written and communicated well. Even if everyone improvises on the stage, they can basically play in a certain structure and generate different sparks.

[PChouse]: Please talk about your understanding of the two words original design and innovation.

[Huang Shuheng]: To be honest, I don’t think there are many real originals. With our current innovation and creativity in design, if we carefully examine it layer by layer, you will find that most of the innovations can almost find some clues and contexts earlier, or the language, thoughts, and creations left by our predecessors. The people behind us absorb these nutrients, then integrate them through their own knowledge, and then re-express them. We call them originality. But I think that more than 90% of our designs and creations are related to the environment, the times, and to the souls and sentient beings. What is true originality? I think it is only possible to obtain in one state. That is, when you enter a very deep state, such as doing some breathing, yoga, and meditation, when you are very quiet, sometimes your mind will have a bright light, as if you have received information from the world and the universe, allowing you to quickly capture these short-term touches through some methods. Often, the information you get at that time will be more called "original".

[PChouse]: What kind of design is a good design that resonates with you?

[Huang Shuheng]: For me, good design actually has no boundaries. Whether it is architecture, interior design, or furniture design, I think it is integrated.When you think or try to create a good space, your thoughts should not have thresholds or boundaries. When design reaches a stage, within and outside belongs to architecture, for me, it is because of this relationship that we must design our own furniture, because only the overall supporting facilities can truly express our ideas about design.

But furthermore, if we make our profession more sacred, I think we should increase the value of design a little higher, that is, can we bring some positive energy to users through improving the space? When the opportunity is satisfied and the problem is solved, what is the state it produces? Is it produces more pursuits, more desires, or is it produces peace and care for each other. This may be too mysterious to say, but I think the motivation of a good designer before design should be known, in order to achieve the purpose of being a designer.

[PChouse]: How to evaluate nature?

[Huang Shuheng]: There have been many changes in the series of nature recently, and each series seems to be more able to meet the elements that designers want to express when designing, so I feel very happy. If you have the opportunity to cooperate with them in the future.

[PChouse]: What is the significance of an attitude to products and design?

[Huang Shuheng]: I think an attitude-based design is "don't treat design as a business, but as a tool for making a living by yourself." In addition to basic material needs, we also need spiritual needs. This part has nothing to do with how much money others pay you, and it is the original intention part that will not change. This matter is more like the self-expectedness of ancient Chinese literati, the so-called writing conveys the truth. I think the same is true for design, because if you draw it, you will change the space, so you have to be responsible for these changes. So more importantly, when we want to change the environment through our own thoughts, what are our thoughts and actions? This original intention will profoundly affect our future actions.
