Commemorate the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression Volunteers work together to carry out a public welfare activity for caring for veterans of the Yulin Anti-Japanese War
September 1 is the anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. To commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, 12 veterans from Yucheng, Xingye , and Fumian were invited to gather in Yucheng.
They are a special group and also a "living history", among which the youngest is 92 years old and the oldest is 106 years old. At the moment of life and death of the nation, they rushed to the battlefield, fought bloody battles, and made indelible contributions to the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan. Since 2012, every year on the Victory Day of the Anti-Japanese War, the Yulin Action Group assisted veterans in the War of Resistance Against Japan will hold a public welfare activity to care for veterans in the War of Resistance Against Japan, allowing veterans to gather together and pay tribute to the veterans. Unlike previous years, in 2018, volunteers added a visit to Yucheng with veterans to the event, allowing veterans to feel the gratifying changes in the development of Yulin.

Due to physical reasons, 12 of the 20 veterans registered in the list were finally present.

On the morning of September 1, volunteers came to decorate the site early. At 9 a.m., veterans arrived one after another. 106-year-old Chen Lanfang needed to get off with a wheelchair. Su Zuyuan, who had been living in the same family for five generations, came with a cane. Huang Guoqiang, who was "young" in his age, brought a large number of medals of honor. When each pick-up truck slowly stopped, groups of volunteers from three to five would come forward enthusiastically, salute the veterans, and help the veterans to enter the venue to take their seats. These veterans were gray and staggering, but they wore uniform yellow souvenirs, each holding a bouquet of flowers in their hands, sitting upright, becoming the most dazzling stars on the scene.
has been assembled, and doctors and nurses from Guinan Hospital of the city conducted a simple physical examination for the veterans. The volunteers asked the veterans to leave memorial handprints on the rice paper. Afterwards, the 12 veterans took 12 pick-up vehicles and started their Jade City tour. The fleet of cars with stickers and ribbons straps was double flashing, which was very eye-catching, passing through Yuntian Cultural City , Garden Expo Park, Municipal Square and other city landmarks. "Grandpa, this is , Yudong New District . You see, this place used to be paddy fields, but now there are high-rise buildings everywhere." In the car, volunteer Xiao Chen acted as a "tour guide" for the elderly Huang Guoqiang.

After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, most veterans were discharged from their troops and returned to their hometowns in the village and rarely had the chance to leave the city. Now that he has witnessed the earth-shaking changes in Yucheng, Huang Guoqiang, who lives in Liangping Village, Shatian Town, , Fumian District, was very moved and said bluntly that he "can't recognize it." At the age of 92, he is very healthy except for a little ear. "I went to join the army at the age of 14." Huang Guoqiang said that he replaced Cheng's brother to join the army. After participating in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and Aid Korea, he was welcomed by the masses during his triumphant journey. "Compared with that time, the changes in Jade City are really great now."
Annual party is the thing that veterans most look forward to
After visiting Jade City, it was almost noon. Volunteers invited the veterans to the hotel for a simple and grand gathering. Although they went out for a long time to move, the veterans were not tired at all. They sat around the table and chatted with their comrades and volunteers. Hearty laughter came from the venue from time to time.

"Xiao Chen, I haven't seen you for a long time. I must come to my house if I have time. I will prepare a local chicken and let's have a meal together." 96-year-old veteran Chen Mengxian, from Xinqiao Town, Fumian District, joined the Third Regiment of the Guangxi Student Army in 1939, and later joined the Nanning Anti-Japanese Guerrillas and fought guerrilla wars in the 100,000 mountains. In the past two years, when veterans gathered, they were all volunteer Da Chen as the driver, picking up and dropping off Chen Mengxian to Luchuan and Rongxian to participate in the event, so Chen Mengxian was deeply impressed by him.
Although veterans Gong Shengyan and Xiao Weihua are relatives, one lives in Xingye Putang and the other lives in Xingye High Peak, and they rarely come and go. When the two met, they whispered from time to time and greeted each other. The other veterans also whispered and had a great chat.
The head of the Yulin Operation Group for Assisting Anti-Japanese War Veterans "Drifting" is a veteran volunteer who cared for veterans. He knows every veteran's experience in the War of Resistance, and tells it all the volunteers, guests, and caring merchants present. "Drifting" says that at present, there are 20 registered veterans of Yucheng, Xingye, Fumian, and a surviving anti-Japanese war. For them, gathering at this time of year is the most anticipated thing. In order to save the wishes of veterans, the Yulin Action Group assisted veterans of the Anti-Japanese War since 2012, has held activities with Yulin Hongdou Volunteer Association, Beiliu Zhongli Volunteer Association, Yulin News Reporter Poverty Alleviation and Relief Federation and other units every year to gather veterans. Everyone mobilized caring people, enterprises and businesses from all walks of life to raise funds for veterans. As of 8:00 a.m. on August 31, a total of 24,250 yuan of donations were raised in 2018. In addition, a large number of materials such as mooncakes, wine, umbrellas, and jelly donated by caring merchants have been received. These kind acts have condensed the care and respect of veterans from all walks of life.
