"The Straits Forum is a 'People' forum' recognized by compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. It has built a 'bridge of connections' and paved the 'road to benefit the people'" between compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait." At the 13th Straits Forum that opened on December 11, Wang Yang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, explained the positioning and significance of the Straits Forum. "People", "compatriots", "connecting hearts" and "benefiting the people" are all the key words. These words together point to a group, that is, the grassroots people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Since 2009, the
Straits Forum has been successfully held for 13 sessions. It is a major platform for cross-strait civil exchanges. The forum has always emphasized the folk nature, breadth, interaction and equal participation. The grassroots people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are the absolute protagonists of the Straits Forum, and the issues that the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are the major themes of the Straits Forum.
The current situation in the Taiwan Strait is becoming increasingly complex and severe. The fundamental reason is that the DPP authorities unilaterally deny the "1992 Consensus" that embodies the one-China principle, collude with external forces, and continue to seek "independence" provocation. During the preparation of this forum, the DPP authorities also abused public power again without surprise to intimidate, threaten and suppress those participating in the forum. Even so, the Straits Forum was held smoothly and received positive responses from the people on the island. Facts have fully proved that the general trend of cross-strait exchanges and cooperation is unstoppable, and compatriots' willingness to get closer and see relatives cannot be violated.
No matter who rules on Taiwan, it is the common voice of Taiwan compatriots to be peaceful, develop, and live a good life. Based on its own political interests, the DPP authorities have continuously promoted "gradual Taiwan independence" and obstructed cross-strait exchanges and cooperation. This is a counter-intentional move that seriously violates the mainstream public opinion on the island. Since the DPP came to power, the green camp has become a leader and the people have become in dire straits, which has enriched the DPP and poor the entire Taiwan. The DPP authorities have no hope for promoting the return of stability in the situation in the Taiwan Strait and promoting the peaceful development of cross-strait relations. The DPP authorities have no hope for these top priorities in the minds of the Taiwanese people; relying on the people-to-people across the Taiwan Strait to expand exchanges and deepen integrated development is the right way to the world.
The compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait are connected by blood and share the same destiny, and are a family. The desire of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait to enhance exchanges and deepen cooperation is sincere and strong, and the trend of cross-strait integration and development cannot be stopped. Even though we face the serious test of the epidemic and the human obstacles set by the DPP authorities, the mainland and the vast number of Taiwanese compatriots still overcome difficulties and work together to promote the integration of cross-strait fields to achieve new progress and new results.
We have the ability to make the Chinese nation, which has suffered severe disasters, usher in a great leap from standing up, becoming rich to becoming strong, and let the poor and deserted motherland build a moderately prosperous society in all respects. Of course, we have the ability to let our compatriots in Taiwan live a better life. Taiwan is a Taiwan jointly owned by all Chinese people, and maintaining national unity is the most cherished national integrity of the Chinese. We hope to work together with our compatriots in Taiwan to work together, promote integration with communication, benefit and emotion, and create a better future for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
