World Photography Organization is pleased to announce the 2022 prestigious Sony World Photography Awards overall winners. A critically acclaimed photographer Adam Ferguson (Australia) received the title of Photographer of the Year, accompanied by a cash prize of $25,000 (USD) and a range of Sony Digital Imaging Kits. The winners of the 10 categories were also announced as well as second and third place in the professional competition, as well as overall champions in the Open, Student and Youth competitions.

This year's Outstanding Photography Contribution Award was awarded to the works of famous Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky.

2021 Professional Competition Chairman said: "What Adam Ferguson did at the US/ Mexico border with immigrant families and individuals was very compassionate and touching. This portrait set fully illustrates how moral intentions and respect help avoid the manipulation and invasion of private photography that is often accused of. By giving his subject shutter release, Adam gave the nanny a certain amount of power to decide how to be perceived. These photos are beautiful, meaningful and affectionate. As a jury, we have other stories that are admired, but Adam's series stands out because it eloquently and passionately tells those in trouble, but they stick to themselves regardless of location and wealth, regardless of location and wealth. Decent and love. Commenting on his award-winning work,

Ferguson said: By working with immigration, this series of photos attempts to create images that inspire empathy rather than sympathy. By giving up control of the capture and giving them in the process of representatives of each immigration agency, I hope to subvert marginalized narratives and create a story that feels more humane, more relevant and honest. I thank those individuals who agree to work with me and receive this award on their behalf. Receiving the Photographer of the Year award gives this story another life. It allows new audiences to connect with the important stories of the individuals who share their stories with me.

Immigration is a series of black and white self-portraits of Mexican immigrants as they waited to cross the border into the United States. Ferguson worked with subjects to set scenes for each image, installing medium format on a tripod with cable release The camera, then back, allows individuals to choose the shooting moment and participate in the process of recording their own lives.

In February 2021, after the U.S. presidential government changes, immigrants from Central America and South America surged on the U.S.-Mexico border. There are worrying photos of immigrants carrying property, clinging to their loved ones and being captured by photographers’ flashes. While Ferguson noticed the importance of this photography news, he noticed the obvious lack of photography on the Mexican side of the border, especially images of any agency measures given to immigrants.

Wilson won the award for his powerful photo Angry Management entering the Natural World and Wildlife category. This black and white image depicts a dirt-covered wild horse storm in northwest Colorado. The photo was taken shortly after the stallion jumped into the mud pool in case of summer pests while pounding the ground to let the competing males know he was ready to fight for his position in a nearby puddle.

Speaking of his victory, Wilson said: “I feel so honored to see Angry Management win the 2022 Open Photographer of the Year at the Sony World Photography Awards. Watching the behaviour of the wild horses in the wild is a primitive and vibrant wildlife experience. Image tension symbolizes the conservation challenges faced by the western U.S. wild horses, which are being rounded up in record numbers and removed from public land. By the end of 2022, more wild horses will be kept in captivity than free-running ones.
