Wang Changling, History of Tang Dynasty , has the reputation of "Seven-Sage Holy Hand". Wang Changling's career was bumpy and he was demoted many times. This song "Handle Chai Shiyu " was written by him during his demotion to Longbiao County (now Hongjiang City, Hunan). At that time, his friend Chai Shiyu was going to Longbiao to Wugang . Before leaving, Wang Changling wrote this poem to see him off.
The first sentence "The Yuan River connects to Wugang" points out where your friend is going. Wugang was a county under Shaoyang County, Shaozhou in the Tang Dynasty. Although it is not far from Longbiao, there is a steep Xuefeng Mountain in the middle. Fortunately, there are Yuanjiang waterways in the two places that can be accessed. Therefore, the second sentence says, "I don't realize that I am sad about separation when I send you off", which is contrary to the sorrow of farewell poems in ancient times. The third and fourth sentences "The green mountains are the same as clouds and rain, and the bright moon has never been two towns" further explained: Although we are separated from two places, we have been together in the same clouds and rain in the same green mountains and the bright brilliance of the bright moon, but have we been separated? The first sentence affirms, the second sentence retorts, and the repeated greetings, the deeper the emotion.
In addition, Wang Changling also wrote a regulated poem " Send Ren Wu to Guilin " at Long Biao's Reign. The second couplet is "The mountains are the two towns, and the moon brings a thousand miles of appearance", which is similar to "The green mountains are the same as clouds and rain, and the bright moon has never been two towns".
