The highest flood peak flow rate is 1450 cubic meters/sec (calculated as tide-an water level 10.88 meters).
The bottom of the Xinjin River is a fine sand layer. Due to the alluvial quicksand in the upper reaches, the riverbed increases. The water is shallow during drought, and some river sections are almost impossible to pass through wooden boats. When the flood rises, the upstream rapids rushed down, and river sections such as Tiezhou and Hongfenguan are prone to danger.
The estuary is located at 23°21' north latitude and 116°46' east longitude. It is located at the junction of Shantou City and Chenghai County . It was originally named Xingang and was once Xinjin Port. During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty (1522-1566), it was called Xingang. In the eighth year of Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1669), the Xingang Water Flood and Jinkou Flood were established here. Therefore, the first characters of the two floods were named Xinjin Port, and in 1987 it was renamed Xinjin Riverkou. It runs north and south, 1 kilometer long, 0.04 kilometers wide, and the water depth is less than 1 meter. The sandy beaches on the bottom of the sand and outside the mouth accumulate rapidly, extending southwest to the north of Mayu Island. The red snail shoal is 5-6 kilometers wide, with large waves, unstable sand on the railings, and often eroded and drifted southwest into the seaway of Shantou Port, silt in the seaway.
