Black Adam and Shazam were supposed to debut in DC Movie Universe as super villains and heroes, but the one who made the two stand alone was the starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the upcoming Black Adam movie.
"When we first received the first draft of the movie, it combined Black Adam and Shazam: two origin stories in one movie." Johnson told Vanity Fair: "That was originally the purpose of the movie, so it wasn't particularly surprised. But when I was reading the script, my intuition knew, 'We can't make this movie like this. We'll do a lot of damage to the character of Black Adam'. For Shazam, it would be nice to combine two origin stories in this movie, but not good for Black Adam."
The character Black Adam first appeared in 1945's "Marvel Family" #1 of Forsette Comics, as a villain who only appears once. After DC purchased several of Forsette’s characters, Black Adam became the number one enemy of the hero Shazan. While it’s not unreasonable to put two characters in the same film, considering Dao Black Adam is not a complete villain, and the backstory is very complicated, putting the origins of the two characters together can lead to the film being very confusing.
"What makes Black Adam different is that he has his own creed," Johnson said in the latest Total Film "Black Adam" cover album: "If you try to hurt his people, his family, his country, or himself, he will tear you in half."
"Black Adam" will be released on October 21, 2022.
