Lishui is located in southern Zhejiang , with an area of 17,300 square kilometers, making it the largest prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province with a land area; the forest coverage rate reaches 81.7%, making it an important ecological barrier in Zhejiang and even East China. The air quality ranks among the top ten in the country all year round, and the ecological environment status index has ranked first in the province for 15 consecutive years. It is the first batch of national ecological civilization pilot demonstration zones, the first batch of national ecological protection and construction demonstration zones, and the national water ecological civilization city. It is selected as the first batch of national climate-adaptive city construction pilot projects. According to the accounting of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the GDP of Lishui ecosystem (GEP) increased from 209.6 billion yuan in 2006 to 467.3 billion yuan in 2017, with an increase of 86.7% at comparable prices.
Lishui is known as the "last secret land in Jiangnan" and is the first batch of Chinese folk art hometowns. It has 3 UN intangible cultural heritages of human beings and 18 national intangible cultural heritages. The "Three Treasures of Lishui" Longquan celadon, Longquan sword, and Qingtian stone carvings are famous both at home and abroad. There are 257 national-level traditional villages in the city, making it the area with the largest number of ancient villages and the most complete style in East China.
Lishui is also the only prefecture-level city in Zhejiang Province where all counties (cities, districts) are old revolutionary base counties. Zhou Enlai, Liu Ying, Su Yu and others have left their battle footprints in Lishui. At present, there are nearly 430 revolutionary sites in the city.
Hu Haifeng said that after 70 years of hard work, Lishui's economic and social development has achieved a historic leap. The city's GDP jumped from 79 million yuan in 1949 to 139.467 billion yuan in 2018, and the total economic output reached a level of 100 billion yuan; the per capita GDP jumped from 68 yuan in 1949 to 63,611 yuan in 2018, reaching the middle and high income level; the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents increased from 302 yuan and 131 yuan in 1978 to 42,557 yuan and 19,922 yuan in 2018 respectively; urban and rural income decreased from to 2.136:1.
Hu Haifeng said that the vicissitudes and great changes in Lishui are a driving force for the brilliant achievements of the Republic in 70 years of development. Entering the new era, Lishui will base itself on the greatest reality of "ecology is the greatest advantage and development is the most important task", always maintain the concept of "two mountains", protect one area of green waters and green mountains, and create the most beautiful core area of Zhejiang's Great Garden of Poetry and Painting.
