After Tsai Ing-wen took office, she denied the "1992 Consensus " and insisted on "anti-China and Taiwan" as the criterion for handling cross-strait relations. After Pelosi fled Taiwan, the mainland implemented a series of countermeasures against Taiwan, and the economy of Taiwan was setback. The DPP authorities ignored the difficulties faced by the people on the island and continued to shout to the international community, expressing their welcome to follow Pelosi's imitation to Taiwan and establish so-called "diplomatic relations" with Taiwan. Seeing that the situation in the Taiwan Strait continues to escalate, Tsai Ing-wen is still unrepentant. People from all walks of life on the island have called on Tsai Ing-wen, demanding that the DPP authorities resume dialogue with the mainland.
Kuomintang Chairman Zhu Lilun said that if there is a military conflict between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, the people on both sides will be hurt. The most important thing at the moment is to make every effort to ensure peace, and Tsai Ing-wen's policy of "no contact, no communication, no dialogue" will bring 23 million people in Taiwan into the abyss. If the DPP still has a sense of responsibility, it should immediately resume political dialogue with the mainland. Former Kuomintang Chairman Ma Ying-jeou also said that if Tsai Ing-wen cannot propose a new political consensus that both sides of the Taiwan Strait agree, it should return to the "1992 Consensus." He also criticized Tsai Ing-wen's proposal for "preparing for war, avoiding war and seeking peace" as an empty word. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait should not only "avoid war", but also "seeking peace".
Although the Kuomintang repeatedly called on the Tsai administration to start dialogue and communication to promote the stability of the situation in the Taiwan Strait, the DPP authorities have never responded and have no action to "make peace". Against this background, the People's Party has also begun to call on the Tsai administration, hoping not to "smear" and criticize the ways to seek peace, and requires the Tsai administration to engage in dialogue with the mainland to maintain peace across the Taiwan Strait.
People's General Summit Qiu Chenyuan emphasized at the press conference that the DPP authorities should seize the opportunity to seize peace and restart cross-strait dialogue. Zhang Qilu, secretary-general of the People's Party, said that the DPP authorities should face up to the people's anxiety about the escalation of the cross-strait situation, give full play to the role of the Mainland Affairs Council and the cross-strait coordination pipeline, and restore normal communication channels with the cross-strait leadership as soon as possible to avoid misjudgment leading to worsening of cross-strait relations.
As the situation in the Taiwan Strait escalates, the people on the island are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with Tsai Ing-wen’s cross-strait policy. Polls on the island show that people who are dissatisfied with Tsai Ing-wen's cross-strait policy have climbed to 53%, reaching the highest point since Tsai Ing-wen took office. At the same time, the DPP's approval rating has continued to decline. Although it still ranks first on the island, its approval rating plummeted by 7.8 percentage points compared with last month, with only 22.4%. The original supporters turned to support other political parties, and the support rate of the People's Party continued to rise, reaching 20.9%, only 1.5 percentage points behind the Democratic Progressive Party, becoming the second largest political party on the island.
Previously, the DPP’s support rate on the island once reached 41.3%, but now it has fallen to 22.4%, which can be said to be a good hand of cards. However, the People's Party has been rising from its 10.3% approval rating, with a faint tendency to surpass the Democratic Progressive Party. The main reason is that after Tsai Ing-wen took office, she blindly pursued the interests of the party, ignored the voices of the people on the island, and insisted on colluding with external forces, which eventually led to the turmoil in Taiwan and put the people in a dangerous situation.
This point, the chairman of the People's Party Ko Wen-je has obviously realized it. In the interview, he said that as long as it is in the best interests of the Taiwanese people, they will support it. Regarding cross-strait relations, Ko Wen-je said that the focus of the "1992 Consensus" is "consensus". The tense situation in the Taiwan Strait is because of the lack of communication between the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. The two sides of the Taiwan Strait should talk, because dialogue is always better than confrontation, and communication is always better than bad interactions.
Ko Wenzhe's statement is also what the mainland has always emphasized. The mainland is willing to do its best to create space for cross-strait peace. The basis of cross-strait dialogue and communication lies in adhering to the "1992 Consensus". Only when the DPP returns to the "1992 Consensus" can cross-strait relations return to the right track. If the DPP authorities still cannot recognize this, it will only be a matter of time before they are abandoned by the people.
