The International Association of Architects (UIA) recently joined hands with UN-Habitat to launch the International Association of Architects 2030 Award, encouraging architects to contribute to the realization of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the  - DayDayNews

International Association of Architects (UIA) Recently, they jointly launched the International Association of Architects 2030 Award , encouraging architects to contribute to the realization of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.

This award is awarded every two years and is held simultaneously with World City Forum , and architects from all over the world are invited to submit entries. These works should be built projects with outstanding design quality and outstanding contributions to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in six categories. Applications are now open for the first award cycle of this award (2021-2022).

In the face of challenges such as climate change, rapid urbanization and inequality caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it is particularly important for architects and built environment professionals to contribute to this urgent global agenda.

International Association of Architects is committed to supporting the realization of 17 Sustainable Development Goals, especially Sustainable Development Goal 11 "Building inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements".

Category

For all Sustainable Development Goals

1, Open Class: This category will commend the construction and construction environment that contribute to the realization of sustainable development through various means. According to the opinions of the judges, projects that have made the greatest contribution to the realization of global goals as a whole will be commended.

2. Improve energy efficiency: This category will recognize projects that have made significant contributions to improving energy efficiency, comply with the basic principles of the Sustainable Development Goals 7 target 7.3 and demonstrate excellent design quality.

3 For the Sustainable Development Goals 11

3, Appropriate, safe and affordable housing: This category will recognize projects that have made significant contributions to the provision of accessible, appropriate, safe and affordable housing, urban renewal and/or slum renovation, which must comply with the basic principles of SDG 11-specific Goal 11.1.

4. Participatory planning with high land use and strong inclusiveness: This category will recognize projects that have made significant contributions to the planning of human settlements with high land use, strong inclusiveness, participatory and comprehensive land settlements. The projects must comply with the basic principles of Sustainable Development Goal 11-specific goals 11.3.

5. Providing green public space: This category will recognize projects that have made significant contributions to providing safe, inclusive and accessible green public spaces to everyone. The projects must comply with the basic principles of SDG 11-specific Goal 11.7.

6. Local materials: This category will commend projects that have made significant contributions to the construction of sustainable and disaster-resistant buildings through local materials. The projects must comply with the basic principles of Sustainable Development Goal 11-specific goals 11.c.

review process

review process will be divided into two stages. In the first phase, the judges will evaluate the entries according to the five major divisions of the International Association of Architects, and select 1 to 3 regional finalists from each award category to enter the second phase.

In the second phase, one winning project will be selected in each of the six categories. After the second phase is completed, these projects will be awarded medals. At the same time, the remaining finalists selected by each region will also be commended.

Promotion

The first phase of regional shortlisted works will be promoted on the Internet of International Association of Architects and UN-Habitat. These projects will be displayed through virtual showrooms on the International Association of Architects’ website, the association’s social media and/or journals, and related platforms from association member institutions. The award ceremony will be held in June 2022 at the World City Forum held in Katowice, Poland.
