2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings cover 1,799 universities from 104 countries/regions, and is the largest and most diverse university rankings so far .

Harvard University performed the best in teaching indicators, Oxford University ranked among the top in research indicators, and Macau University of Science and Technology led in international outlook indicators.
The number of universities in mainland China ranked 4th in the world in the top 200 (10 last year, 11 this year), surpassing Australia, which fell to 5th with Netherlands .
has 177 colleges and universities on the list. The United States is the country with the largest number of colleges and universities, and the same is true in the top 200 (58 in total).
This year, universities in 5 countries entered the ranking for the first time, all from African , including: Zambia , Namibia , Mozambique , Zimbabwe and Mauritius .
Overall, 1799 universities entered the rankings. Another 526 universities were listed as "reporters" that submitted data but have not met the ranking criteria or obtained rankings.
Threshold conditions for participating in ranking
If the university does not enroll undergraduate students, or if the university has less than 1,000 related publications from 2017 to 2021 (at least 150 copies per year on average), the university cannot enter the Times World University Rankings. If more than 80% of the university's research results belong to one of our 11 disciplines, they will also be excluded.
