[New York report by Gao Shiyun, a reporter from Qiaobao, this year, Yu Lin, who will run for the state legislator of the Chinese News Agency in Brooklyn, visited Qiaobao on the 23rd to talk about the original intention and political views of the election. Lin Yu pointed out that the current political system in New York has deviated from its original intention and urgently needs grassroots newcomers to break through. He will strive to compete for this year's state parliamentary elections to truly represent the interests of the Asian community. Lu Zhongwei, deputy editor-in-chief of the Overseas Chinese News, received Lin Yu and his party.
Lin Yu described that as a child of immigrants in Fuzhou, he grew up in the United States and started a family and a career, but he witnessed the increasingly harsh growth environment of the next generation. From education to safety, he found that if he didn't do anything, his children would have no future. This made him determined to take action from now on, and to participate in the election with an urgent mood as a political amateur, vowing to make changes.
He pointed out that problems like the proliferation of homeless people are completely man-made disasters and the result of years of dereliction of duty and corruption by politicians. Under the current system, some lawmakers who have been in power for many years have lost their original intention of serving voters. They only come out and shout slogans when community protests, but do not take practical actions. If this continues, these veteran lawmakers will lose the trust of the people.
Lin Yu said that the possibility of re-election of current lawmakers is generally more than 80%. Even if they no longer seek re-election, the newly-sponsored candidates often have close ties with them, and they are derived from their system. If these people are selected, even if they are willing to serve the community, they will easily become puppets of the forces behind them. There are very few candidates who are truly grassroots and plead for the people. In this reality, his goal is to put voters first in everything and keep his original intention forward.
This year, the political map of New York has changed a lot. After the constituency is re-demarcated, Brooklyn will have a 27th state senator constituency, which is widely known as the "Asian constituency". The proportion of Asian voters in the local area is quite high, and it is very likely that Brooklyn's first elected congressman will be elected. At present, Lin Yu is willing to participate in the district's election, and is also considering competing for the 49th State Representatives constituency of current Congressman Peter Beth. I believe there is also a high hope of winning the election, and the specific choice is still under consideration.
Lin Yu said that no matter where he runs for, he is really facing the majority of voters. Of course, he could not compete with the party and the league forces alone, but he believed that the key to winning votes is to win the support of grassroots people. "Do you want these people to continue to do the same as in the past few decades, or do you want a new change?" Everything depends on the people's choice.
