Driving License
According to the new regulations, in Dubai, a license issued by the RTA is now required to drive and operate an electric scooter in Dubai, and the RTA will issue a license for “electric scooters or any other form of bicycle” in accordance with the decision issued by the Director General of the RTA and the Chairman of the Executive Board. However, no details about the license have been disclosed yet, such as how to obtain it, what qualifications are required, etc.
Age Limit
Dubai raised the minimum age of riders to 16 in January this year, and the resolution reiterated that riders who are not of age are not allowed to operate electric bicycles or electric scooters or any other type of bicycle designated by the RTA, and riders under 12 should be accompanied by adult riders aged 18 or older. It also stated that two people are not allowed to ride unless there are separate seats.
Speed limit
According to the RTA website, the maximum speed limit for electric scooters and other types of bicycles must be set to 20 km/h. And it cannot be used on roads with a speed limit of 60 km/h or above.
Vehicle requirements
Electronic bicycles and bicycles should be equipped with white headlights at the front, red lights and red reflectors at the rear, bells on the steering wheel, and brakes on the front and rear tires.
