Shocked by the sudden passing of a generation of master Mr. Ji Xianlin. In my grief, I recalled the scene of seeing Mr. Ji Xianlin four times, and his voice, appearance and smile are still vivid in my mind.
——— Preface
Mr. Ji Xianlin is a famous Chinese orientalist, writer, educator and social activist. As a fellow countryman of Mr. Ji Xianlin, I have the fate to visit Mr. Ji four times. Whenever I think about it, my mood cannot be calm for a long time.

Peking University met Mr. Ji
The first time I met Mr. Ji was when I was studying at the Central Party School in the spring of 1997. I recalled the reason that my hometown was less than 20 miles away from Mr. Ji’s hometown Guanzhuang, and was also from the former Qingping County in Shandong Province. As early as when I was a student, I loved reading Mr. Ji’s prose. In recent years, I admired his moral articles very much. In addition, the Central Party School where I studied was and the neighbors of Peking University, my desire to see Mr. Ji naturally became stronger. After discussing with Chen Yanming (the secretary of the Liaocheng Committee of Shandong Province at the time), we didn’t expect that we both hit it off and he actively contacted and arranged the meeting.
However, when I entered the Beijing University gate, I was about to see Mr. Ji, but I was worried in my heart: Can the academic master who is well-versed in Chinese and Western learning and famous all over the world welcome me, a fellow villager whom I have never seen before? When we met, after being introduced by the fellow villager of Linqing , Mr. Ji held my hand tightly, and did not let go for a long time. He also asked about the situation in Shandong and his hometown intimately. My unnecessary doubts disappeared.
I watched his simple outfit and kind smile, listened to his "hometown accent" talk, and felt that "it felt the same way" at first sight. He held my hand, walked around the east and west rooms at home, opened the bookcase, and flirted with books. The collection of books in each room widened my horizon. He told me: "Among the professors of Peking University, if I were rated as the "top student in the collection", I would probably deserve it." "My collection is like my friend, And he is a close friend." I was shocked. On the way back, I kept thinking: The "Top of Book Collection" has tens of thousands of books. If you make friends with tens of thousands of books, your obsessive attitude of loving books can be imagined. The first time I met, Mr. Ji's enthusiasm, simplicity and extensive reading left a very deep impression on me.
Dongchang Lake Bar 2Dangchang Lake
Dan the golden autumn of this year, I was fortunate to meet Mr. Ji again on Dangchang Lake Bar Bar
Dangchang LakeDan. On October 9, 1997, I went to Liaocheng to work hard for official business. It happened that Mr. Ji was giving lectures at Dangchang Lake Bar Bar Dangchang Lake Bar 1, which was a coincidence. As the saying goes, "I will be born again, and I will be familiar with each other." This time, I really met my old friends. As soon as I saw each other, I said excitedly: "Old Ji is 86 years old and still comes out to give lectures." He smiled and said, "I'm in good health, but my eyes have just undergone minor surgery, which affects reading and writing, but not teaching." Then he took out three books and told me while signing: "This is recently published, so I'll give you a souvenir." Looking at his sincere and sincere expression and the smooth and beautiful three lines of handwritten books, I thought of Mr Ji's eyes having a disease and insisting on signing and writing so well. My eyes couldn't help but feel wet.
That night, under the arrangement of the Liaocheng committee, we had dinner with Mr Ji. We didn't care about each other. There was not much conversation, there was only a constant stream of toasting. In order to show respect, I accompanied Mr. Ji without leaving, nor toasting in other rooms. Seeing Mr. Ji a little inconvenient, I picked up food for Mr. Ji from time to time. Seeing Mr. Ji eating as much as he could, I was very happy in my heart as I ate as much as he could, and I thought, Mr. Ji loves to eat food in his hometown and is intimate with his hometown. After dinner, he heard from the leader of Liaocheng University that Mr. Ji went to Linqing the next day and had to go back to his hometown Guanzhuang to visit his parents' graves. Considering the cold wind and cold in the fields in late autumn, I brought a new cashmere sweater to Mr. Ji's room. Mr. Ji held my hand and said, "Thank you, I think so thoughtful."
More than ten days later, a fellow villager rushed to me and said, "Mr. Ji wrote a picture of words for you, which has been framed, so I asked me to send it." I opened it and saw it, neatly and seriously, with a strong bookish atmosphere. The content is: "Spring in spring, planting trees into the mountains, and riding a hundred miles is not afraid of difficulties. You can eat and sleep everywhere on the ground, and you can wear green straw raincoats and yellow hats. You can record the poems of Master Yinke to Comrade Keyu." The signature was "May 17, 1997". I was so excited that I couldn't calm down for a long time. Unexpectedly, Mr. Ji wrote the poems of Mr. Chen Yinke's most respected teacher , Chen Yinke's to me a few days after the first meeting. I deeply felt that Mr. Ji was a person who loved his hometown and valued friendship, and was a "person of temperament".
