March 21 is International Forest Day. This year’s theme is forests and sustainable production and consumption, calling on people to protect forests, improve resource utilization, slow down environmental degradation and adopt a more sustainable way of life.
In the face of global crises and challenges such as climate change, mankind is a community with a shared future. Planting trees and afforestation not only beautifies the environment, but also shoulders an increasingly important mission.

Forest is the largest carbon storage and carbon absorber on land, which is related to climate change. Through photosynthesis, forest vegetation can absorb carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, exert huge carbon sink function, and has the characteristics of large carbon sink, low cost, and high ecological added value.
In order to respond to climate change, my country previously proposed the goal of "strive to reach its peak in carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060". By 2030, forest stocks will increase by 6 billion cubic meters compared with 2005, which is an important guarantee measure.

Data from National Forestry and Grassland Administration shows that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, my country has completed a total of 960 million mu of forests. Forest coverage rate increased by 2.68 percentage points to 23.04%; the net increase in forest stock volume was 3.839 billion cubic meters, reaching 17.56 billion cubic meters; the total carbon reserves of forest vegetation increased by 1.375 billion tons, reaching 9.2 billion tons.Against the backdrop of the continuous decrease in global forest resources, my country's forest area and stock volume have continued to grow, becoming the country with the largest growth in the world.

The problem of unbalanced and insufficient land greening still exists, and there is still a big gap compared with the people's demand for a beautiful ecological environment.
How will it promote land greening in the future and continue to improve ecological carbon sink capacity? A relevant official from the State Forestry and Grassland Administration said that this goal will be achieved through five measures:
- promote the construction of a natural reserve system with national parks as the main body, carry out voluntary tree planting for all, build national reserve forest , and increase greening and exchange rates through various forms. This year, 96.06 million mu of trees and grass are planned to be planted nationwide, of which 50.06 million mu of afforestation are afforested.

Targeted cultivation and utilization of high-quality wood and bamboo resources, improve the quality and stability of wood and bamboo materials, and expand the application of wood and bamboo in the construction field.
——Improve the measurement and monitoring system of forest and grass carbon sinks, actively participate in the national carbon emission rights trading, explore the establishment of a voluntary emission reduction trading system for forest and grass carbon sinks, and accelerate the promotion of forest and grass carbon sinks.
