According to Taiwan Economic Daily, mobile phone chip maker MediaTek's revenue in September returned to the 20 billion yuan (NT$3.92 billion) mark, reaching 20.041 billion yuan, the third highest ever and drove the revenue exceeding the standard in the third quarter.
On October 7, MediaTek released its financial report showing that the company's revenue in September was 20.041 billion yuan, a monthly increase of 5.4%, the second highest in a single month this year and the third highest in history. Revenue performance is mainly affected by the peak season effect and the depreciation of the New Taiwan dollar. In October, some customers have already pulled goods in advance in September, and MediaTek's shipments this month should be lower than in September.
Driven by the rise in performance in September, MediaTek's consolidated revenue in the third quarter reached 56.962 billion yuan, surpassing the 51.7 billion to 55.5 billion yuan expected by Fassays, a quarterly increase of nearly 21.1%, better than expected. MediaTek originally estimated that the gross profit margin in the third quarter was about 42.5% to 45.5%, and the operating expense ratio was 28% to 32%. Judging from the financial forecast at that time, the gross profit margin continued to decline, but the operating expense ratio had the opportunity to stabilize.
Looking ahead to the fourth quarter, MediaTek Vice Chairman and General Manager Xie Qingjiang once said that the third quarter is the best season for the year, the fourth quarter will be the traditional off-season, and the shipment of smart phone chips this year will be "close" to the original shipment target of 400 million sets.
