On November 17, 2020, the case was heard in the Zhangjiajie Intermediate People's Court. The Zhangjiajie City Procuratorate believes that Zhang Dengpan deliberately illegally deprived others of his life, causing one person to die, and he should be held criminally responsible for intentional homicide. Zhang Dengpan was over 14 years old and under 18 years old when he committed a crime, and should be given a lighter or reduced punishment; Zhang Yuanchun knew that his brother Zhang Dengpan was a criminal, but he still provided him with hidden residence and property to help him escape, and should be held criminally responsible for hiding.
Zhang Dengpan reiterated his confession in court and denied intentional homicide. He said that at the time of the incident, Zhang Guoheng injured his mother Lu Mounong, and he stepped forward to stop him. During this process, he stabbed Zhang Guoheng in the right limb with a pig-killing knife. Then, he ran away in the direction of home, and Zhang Guoheng chased after him. After Zhang Guoheng caught up with him, he pressed his neck with one hand and snatched his knife with the other. He stabbed Zhang Guoheng with a pig-killing knife during his resistance.
Upstream News reporters noticed that what Zhang Dengpan said was contrary to the criminal facts disclosed by the prosecution. The prosecutor's indictment determined that Zhang Guoheng ran away, and Zhang Dengpan went to chase Zhang Guoheng when he saw this. In addition, Zhang Dengpan made a confession of guilt when he was interrogated by the police and signed a confession of guilty plea and confession.
Zhang Dengpan also said during the trial that the prosecutor stated in court that Zhang Guoheng had been seriously injured by Zhang Dengpan's right limb, Zhang Dengpan held a pig-killing knife, and Zhang Guoheng had no hoe in his hand. After being seriously injured, he took the initiative to pursue him, which was unreasonable.
Zhang Yuanchun pleaded guilty and accepted punishment in court.
