China News Service, Jinan, August 29 (Liang Ben, Niu Yanchun, Wang Yongjun) Sinopec 29 announced on the 9th that China's largest carbon capture, utilization and storage full-industry chain demonstration base and the first million-ton CCUS project, the " Qilu Petrochemical -Shengli Oilfield Million-ton CCUS Project", officially launched gas injection, marking that China's CCUS industry has begun to enter the middle and late stages of technology demonstration - mature commercial operations.
carbon capture, utilization and storage is referred to as CCUS, which means that the carbon dioxide emitted during the production process is captured and purified, and then put into a new production process for reuse and storage. The one-million-ton CCUS project of Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield is captured by Qilu Petrochemical and transported it to Shengli Oilfield for oil flooding and sealing, realizing the integrated application of carbon dioxide capture, oil flooding and storage.

"Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield's million-ton CCUS project is known as the "industrial forest". After production, it can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1 million tons each year, which is equivalent to nearly 9 million trees planting and nearly 600,000 economical cars being stopped for one year. It can effectively promote the clean fossil energy, the scale of clean energy, and the low-carbon production process." Han Feng, deputy chief engineer of Sinopec Group, representative of Qilu Branch and secretary of the Party Committee, said.
Han Feng introduced that the "Qilu Petrochemical-Shengli Oilfield CCUS Project" will be launched on July 5, 2021. As China's first million-ton CCUS project, it is also the largest CCUS full-industry chain demonstration base and benchmark project in China, it is of great significance to building the "artificial carbon cycle" model. The CCUS project gathers the strength of China's manufacturing, and the domestic production rate of equipment reaches 100%. On January 29, 2022, it took 96 days to complete the project.

The reporter learned from Sinopec Qilu Petrochemical Company that the carbon dioxide exhaust emitted from the coal gasification device of the company's second fertilizer plant is a high-quality carbon dioxide resource with a purity of up to 90%. In the carbon capture process, Qilu Petrochemical recovers carbon dioxide from the exhaust gas of the coal gasification device through liquefaction purification technology; in the carbon utilization and storage process, Shengli Oilfield injects carbon dioxide into the oil wells to improve oil recovery rate. At the same time, carbon dioxide is stored underground through the replacement of oil and gas, dissolution and mineralization, so as to turn waste into treasure.
Shengli Oilfield is an important part of the carbon utilization and storage link. Qilu Petrochemical transported the captured liquid carbon dioxide to Shengli Oilfield for oil flooding. In order to do a good job in product loading and unloading, Qilu Petrochemical and Shengli Oilfield discussed the daily production, tank capacity and loading conditions of products, and established an online sales process. In addition, Shengli Oilfield is equipped with a number of vehicles to meet the transportation needs of CCUS projects, and is ready for timely sales and exit from the factory.
"The CCUS project that belongs to Sinopec, Qilu Petrochemical and Shengli Oilfield cooperation has natural advantages. In the next step, we will build and put into use the carbon dioxide transmission pipeline from Qilu Petrochemical to Shengli Oilfield as soon as possible in accordance with unified deployment, reduce transportation costs, and build a replicable and popularizable CCUS full-industry chain demonstration base and benchmark project." Wang Yuliang, general manager of Qilu Petrochemical Company of Sinopec Group, said. (End)
