In recent days, Wushan County Runbo Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative has organized members to weed and sparse flowers for the cherry orchard. So far, the cooperative has held the five "Alpine Cherry" picking festivals in the Jutou Gaoshan Cherry Orchard, and each picking activity has made the cooperative members earn a lot of money. How can a land that relies on the weather for a dry land for nine years have such a abundant industry?
is located in the arid mountainous area of northeastern Wushan County. It has ravines and severe soil erosion. In the 1990s, due to drought and water shortage, agricultural harvests were poor and humans and animals had difficulty drinking water. In 2000, the national ecological project construction settled here, implementing barren mountain afforestation, gully management, terraced fields, and building silt dams. By 2008, 16 silt dams were built in the Zhanggou Basin in Zitou Township, and the cultivated land in Zhanggou, Mishi, Baiyao, Songpo and other villages in the basin have achieved terraced fields. Formation layer by layer and storage is blocked. When the people suffering from water shortage see a pool of clear water stored in the silt dam, they see hope for development.
In 2010, Chen Gang, the head of Wushan County Runbo Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative, discovered this potential. With the strong support of the three-level departments of the county, township and village, he transferred more than 500 acres of land in Dapogou, Zitou Township and built the Zitou Gaoshan Cherry Orchard. After several years of development, the cherry orchard has entered the right track of healthy development, with obvious economies of scale. The cooperative members have also grown from more than 10 households at the beginning of its establishment to more than 200 households, radiating and driving the surrounding farmers to plant orchards to more than 2,000 acres. The cherries of Jutou have not only become a business card for Jutou, but also become the leader in Wushan sightseeing and picking agriculture. The cherries produced in the park in three stages have attracted tourists from surrounding Gangu , Longxi , Dingxi and other places to form groups to pick them. Relying on the water source of the silt dam, the Songpo, Zhanggou and other villages at the end of the basin vigorously developed sailing peppers and mini pumpkins, and achieved significant economic benefits.
The unique climatic conditions, coupled with high-quality terraces and silt dam water sources, accelerate the development of the cooperative. The radiating development of Runbo Fruit and Vegetable Professional Cooperative not only shows the economic and ecological benefits of the construction of soil and water conservation project, but also breaks the model of only traditional crops being planted in alpine and arid areas, breaking a new path for efficient dry farming development that integrates silt dam + ecological tourism + family farm , turning the once barren yellow land into a treasure pot for people to increase their income and become rich.
In the soil and water conservation basin governance work, Wushan has a brilliant history. As early as 1952, Dengjiabao Village's practice of managing soil erosion and building terraces set an example for mountainous areas. From cultivating ridges, repairing terraces, building ponds, shoveling grass, digging tree roots, clearing land and planting land to digging fish scale pits, repairing horizontal belts, building reservoirs, and then comprehensive management of landscape, fields, forests, roads and grass, it has opened a new era for the soil and water conservation work in Wushan.
Since then, the previous Wushan County Party Committee and County Government have been guided by Xi Jinping's ecological civilization thought, firmly established the new development concept of " Green water and green mountains are gold and silver mountains" and united and led the people of the county to carry out comprehensive prevention and control of large-scale soil erosion. From Dengjiabao's example in the 1950s to the convergence of people in the 1970s; from breaking the continuous construction of villages, villages and households in the 1990s, to promoting the whole township, villages and river basins; the continuous area of large-scale construction has expanded from a few acres or dozens of acres to thousands of acres; from a single terraced field to a comprehensive management of mountains, water, fields, forests, roads, grasses and ditches, to the current combination of soil erosion control with people's poverty alleviation and prosperity, and the innovation and improvement of comprehensive governance with the development of characteristic industries, we have embarked on a path of scientific governance of soil erosion.
To date, the county has built a total of 412,200 mu of terraced fields, built 420 ponds, more than 22,800 Gufang, and 16 silt dams; small basins such as Miaoyugou, Xianghegou, Daijiagou, Dashuigou, Zhangjiagou, etc., which have safety hazards, have been comprehensively managed, with a total area of soil erosion controlled by 85.34 thousand hectares, the soil erosion control rate reached 68.7%, and the forest coverage rate reached 24.2%. According to the business department's calculations, through the comprehensive management of soil and water conservation engineering measures and biological measures, sludge is blocked and water storage exceeds 3 million tons per year. The basic conditions for agricultural production have been significantly improved, laying a solid foundation for rural revitalization.

Planting high-efficiency crops such as full-film corn + mulch potato + vegetable melon + beans on newly built terraced fields not only promotes the development of local agricultural industrialization, but also greatly increases farmers' income. Longtai Town grows rapeseed on a large scale in newly built terraced fields. While increasing income, it also drives rural tourism. "Traveling to the beautiful Wushan Mountain and enjoying the sea of rapeseed flowers" has become a rural tourism brand that Wushan County has focused on building in recent years.
Xiliangshan is the core area of production of alpine vegetable in Wushan County. Before 2000, the mountains and slopes were high, the soil erosion was severe, and the agricultural output was low and unstable. After years of continuous governance, more than 50,000 acres of steep slopes have been turned into horizontal terraces, becoming a rich field for local people to increase their output and income. The main beans are harvested, and the rapeseed is harvested in the re-planted beans and vegetable melons. The income of two crops a year has made the people's money bulge. Due to its strong light and no pollution, the beans produced here are good in shape and thick in flesh, which is very popular among merchants from all over the world. During the peak picking period, more than 100 vehicles from all over the country purchase vegetables such as beans, vegetable melons, etc., and farmers even buy tickets every day.
Like Xiliangshan, after the management of Zhangpingliang, Hualingou Basin, Zhitou Beishanliang, Luomen Town Mouping, Wenquan Town Dongliangshan, and Maibuliang, Mali Town, have all developed into Wushan vegetable uphill, the core area for the development of characteristic orchards, and the demonstration area for the cultivation of plateau summer vegetables, becoming a veritable gold and silver mountain.
In midsummer, we walked along the more than 20,000 acres of terraced fields in Dongliangshan, with green beans lush branches and leaves, and fresh green beans hanging onions; off-season onions stretch out the vitality of life, and huge red-skinned onions break through the ground; orchards are lush, and apples are embedded among the green leaves, bent green branches, and under the trees, you can see stroll chickens for food everywhere, presenting a beautiful pastoral scene with a bumper harvest.
Rapeseed Flower Tourist Festival has become a rural tourism brand in Wushan County. In 2015, the county took Longtai Town as a concentric circle to build rapeseed flower sea sightseeing belts in southern townships such as Luomen, Simen, Hot Spring, Beach Ge , Yuanyang, Mali.
