In iOS 16, users can edit and unsend messages in the Messages app, but this also has a time limit. users will be able to re-edit messages, giving them the opportunity to fix pesky spelling mistakes or expand the text as needed. They can also "Unsend" the message, removing it from the chat entirely.
However, the text messages here only apply to messages sent through iMessage, which are messages with a blue background. This does not apply to SMS messages with a green background, meaning the message will remain as is when it is first sent.
However, there are several caveats to this new feature. The first is that they have strict time limits. You only have 15 minutes to edit or unsend your message - you can't change it after that.
Apple also states that older versions of iOS will not respond to unsent requests. In these cases, recipients on older versions of the operating system will be able to see the messages even if they are deleted on the sender side. After discussions with Apple, AppleInsider confirmed the time limit and restrictions for older versions of iMessage and SMS recipients.
