As of the close, the Dow fell 491.27 points, or 1.56%, to 30946.99 points; the Nasdaq fell 343.01 points, or 2.98%, to 11181.54 points; the S&P 500 index fell 78.56 points, or 2.01%, to 3821.56 point.
