After Ukraine was messed up by the West, the country abandoned its non-alignment policy and instead wrote NATO and EU into its constitution. It has been working hard for these two goals for many years. But everyone can see that the West is playing tricks on Ukraine and just gave a blank check, but Ukraine took it seriously.
The fact that the United States was able to provoke the conflict between Russia and Ukraine this time is directly related to Ukraine's trust in NATO. Ukraine believed that NATO would send troops to help and took the initiative to provoke Russia. After provoking the conflict, NATO did not even provide decent military assistance. Not to mention sending troops to help Ukraine.
But Ukraine has not let go of NATO. It has been exerting pressure on NATO, and now it wants to force NATO into the water.
According to Russian RT reports, Ukrainian President Zelensky’s advisor Arestovich said that Ukraine’s membership of NATO is just a formality and that Ukraine has in fact become a member of NATO. Although there is no written document, countries in the Western bloc have promised Ukraine that they will never let Ukraine lose to Russia in this conflict.
Whether Ukraine is a member of NATO or not is not decided by Ukraine, but by NATO. The implementation situation is that Ukraine does not enjoy the mutual defense provisions of NATO's Article 5. If Ukraine is in fact a member of NATO, then according to this clause, other NATO countries will have to send troops to help Ukraine.
Therefore, Ukraine is not a member of NATO, either formally or in fact.
But Arestovich wanted to force his way into this "relative". On the one hand, it can scare Russia and let it know that it has NATO behind it and that dozens of countries want to "help" Ukraine win this war; on the other hand, it wants to drag NATO down, which is Ukraine's last hope. Well, if the NATO countries don't come to an end directly, Ukraine will be in danger.
Of course, NATO cannot really jump to accompany Ukraine just because of a few words. If NATO really wanted to confront Russia, it would have ended long ago. It would not wait until Ukraine could no longer bear it before taking action.
During the Russia-Ukraine conflict, NATO has been trying its best to avoid a frontal military conflict with Russia, even if it is only in words.
NATO has made many small moves behind the scenes. Russian media previously reported that a British commander has been active on the front line, making suggestions and arranging troops for the Ukrainian army.
In addition, the United States, Britain and other countries also sent military advisers to Kiev . The Ukrainian army's previous counterattack against Snake Island was said to be based on the words of the American and British advisers.
In the world-famous Battle of Mariupol, there were also shadows of senior NATO military personnel. Although the identity of the "big fish" has not yet been exposed, Russia has proven that there are active NATO military personnel participating in the battle.
These small actions clearly reflect NATO's thoughts. It is unwilling to break up with Russia, but it does want to take this opportunity to suppress Russia.
It is precisely because NATO has this intention that the Kiev authorities will try every means to draw NATO into the water, trying to escalate the Russia-Ukraine conflict into a military conflict between NATO and Russia.
NATO is not stupid. The degree of NATO participation is determined based on the battlefield situation.
When the situation was unclear at first, NATO did not even provide assistance. Later, it found an opportunity to take advantage of it, and while aiding Ukraine, it secretly sent military personnel to join the war. After the failure of Mariupol , NATO obviously lowered its profile a lot.
The current situation has undergone new changes. The Russian coalition forces have won consecutive battles in the second phase of the operation, and Ukraine has been retreating steadily.
During this process, NATO's attitude took a huge turn. Some countries called on Ukraine to compromise, and some countries even hesitated to assist Ukraine.
Internal strife even broke out in Italy over the provision of weapons to Ukraine.
If Ukraine now has the advantage and has a high probability of winning, NATO may escalate its operations and move in to pick peaches before the conflict ends.
But now Ukraine is being suppressed and has no chance of winning. NATO's intervention at this time will inevitably anger Russia. Not to mention that Ukraine cannot afford the consequences, even the United States has to worry about it.
Therefore, it is unrealistic for Ukraine to forcefully pull NATO into the water. Western countries have always been unwilling to do anything early if they have no benefits. Now they not only have no benefits, but are also paying a price. It is impossible to take action for a cannon fodder.
