Spraying methods
Graco has a variety of spraying equipment methods to choose from. It helps to understand the pros and cons between each technique depending on the desired spray quality, delivery efficiency, spray speed, type of paint used, type of object, shape of object, and the chosen spray technique.
Air Spraying
Air spraying uses a low-pressure fluid to atomize materials under controlled conditions, where the low-pressure fluid flow mixes with compressed air at an air cap. This technology is suitable for spraying low to medium viscosity fluids on products requiring high quality (Class A or decorative spraying).

Because environmental regulatory requirements are constantly changing, Graco has developed different versions of air spray technology:
● Conventional is the traditional form of air spray technology, providing the highest quality spray and the fastest production speeds. To achieve the above advantages, a large amount of air will be used, resulting in lower conveying efficiency.
● High Flow Low Pressure (HVLP) was developed specifically for EPA regulated areas. To meet this regulatory requirement, the amount of air used at the air cap is limited to 10psi. The results show that the low-speed mode has better spray quality and higher transmission efficiency than traditional methods.
● compliance technology usually refers to low flow medium pressure (LVMP) , developed specifically to meet the European standard . The air inlet pressure is required not to exceed 29 psi. This allows the use of air cap designs that provide high quality spray with delivery efficiencies equal to or better than HVLP.

airless spray uses high-pressure fluid for atomization, without the use of compressed air, only with the help of fluid pressure. This technology is suitable for medium to high viscosity fluids and results in lower spray quality, but it will be ideal where increased speed and delivery efficiency are required.
Airless Spray Atomization is created by hydraulic pressure pushing the material through the nozzle. As the fluid leaves the orifice, friction between the fluid flow and the atmosphere breaks the flow into small particles. Nozzle size and pressure determine the flow rate of the material. High pressure is used to create a complete spray pattern. Therefore, the higher the viscosity of the material, the greater the pressure required.

Air-Assisted Airless Spraying
Air-Assisted Airless Spraying uses a medium to high pressure fluid supply for atomization and compressed air at the air cap for spray pattern control. This equipment is used to spray medium to high viscosity fluids. The spray quality is worse than that of airless sprayers, but not as good as that of air sprayers.
Air-assisted airless spray atomization is generated by hydraulic pressure, and this hydraulic force is less than that of an airless sprayer, so it will atomize the center of the spray pattern. Fluid nozzles are used to determine spray pattern size and fluid flow rate. Air is then supplied to help fill the spray pattern. The air cap is used to complete the spray pattern and eliminate spray pattern defects (also called tailing).

air-assisted airless sprayers solve many of the problems associated with working with high viscosity and high solid content coatings, as well as those associated with heating and using higher fluid pressure to assist in the atomization of thicker coatings.
Many water-based coatings require higher fluid pressure from air-assisted airless sprayers. Lower pressure combined with an air-assisted spray gun allows for finer atomization, resulting in a better finish than airless spraying.
Electrostatic spraying
Electrostatic spraying is a spraying method that uses a high-voltage electrostatic electric field to cause negatively charged paint particles to move in the opposite direction of the electric field and adsorb the paint particles to the surface of the workpiece.
This mainly relies on the attraction of opposite charges to achieve higher transport efficiency.
