Green ivy can be said to be the most common flower in our lives. It is not only planted in homes, but also in various conference halls, restaurants, and public places. The leaves of the green ivy are densely green and evergreen all year round, and also have the effect of purifying the air. The market price is also very cheap. Usually you can buy one pot for about ten yuan, so it is very popular among people. Even people who don’t usually raise flowers will keep a few pots at home.

Green ivy has strong vitality and will generally not die, but it is not that simple to raise the pot with lush branches and leaves. Many people's green ivy grows well when they first bought it and grows many branches. However, after one or two years, the growth rate will be significantly slower, the branches will no longer grow taller, and the leaves will become sparse and become ugly as they grow. What's going on?

The green ivy in the family is getting worse and worse. There are two main reasons. Let me explain it in detail below:
Reason 1: Aging branches and messy
Green ivy is a very vigorous plant. Many branches will appear after several months of cultivation. Many people do not know how to prune branches and keep letting them grow, and the branches will grow longer and hang down. The roots of the green ivy can absorb very limited nutrients in the flower pot. If there are too many such branches, most of the nutrients will be taken away and longer. After the main branch takes away the nutrients, other buds will not grow side branches without sufficient nutrient nourishment. Over time, the whole pot of green ivy only has a few old branches, no new side branches, and it is so sparse that it is not good-looking.

So in order to make the green ivy more lush, we need to prune the branches appropriately. If it is a branch that is too thin, it can be cut off directly when it grows, leaving only strong branches. Old branches should not be kept too long. If they are too long, cut the old branches short, thereby limiting the growth of the old branches and allowing nutrients to remain on the new branches.

For example, the hydroponic green ivy in the picture above is not lush, with only two branches. In order to grow new branches, we need to cut the old branches short to promote the germination of new branches.

Reason 2: Insufficient fertilizer
Some flower lovers' green ivy grows very well at the beginning, but after raising it for half a year to a year, it grows worse and worse. The leaves gradually become smaller, the leaves turn yellow, the branches grow thinner and weaker, and some even stagnate growth completely. This situation is probably caused by malnutrition.

(green ivy with yellow leaves due to lack of fertilizer)
When flower shops produce green ivy in greenhouses, in order to grow better, they will add fertilizer to the soil. After we bought the green ivy home, the soil itself contains some fertilizer, which can continuously provide nutrients to the plant and make it grow well. However, as time goes by, the original fertilizer in the soil is absorbed, and the green ivy begins to lack nutrients, and the leaves turn yellow, smaller, and weak branches grow.

It is not difficult to solve this problem. We just need to apply some fertilizer to the soil regularly to supplement nutrition for the green ivy. To fertilize green ivy with fertilizers with higher nitrogen content, you can choose organic fertilizers such as rotten cattle and sheep manure, bean cake fertilizer, , and you can also choose fertilizers such as Huaduoduo No. 1, leaf plant nutrient solution.

The principle of "applying thin fertilizer frequently" to fertilize green ivy should be followed. If it is solid fertilizer, take a small amount of fertilizer and bury it into the soil along the edge of the flower pot and use it once every 30 to 50 days; if it is a liquid fertilizer such as nutrient solution, it needs to be mixed with clean water according to the instruction manual ratio, and then water the fertilizer liquid into the flower pot and use it 2 to 3 times a month.

In summer, green ivy grows quickly and can be slightly diligent in fertilizing. The temperature drops below 15 in autumn and winter, and the green ivy grows slowly or even completely stagnates. Any fertilizer must be completely stopped.
