Suifenhe is a very special city. Suifenhe is special because it was deep in the northeast hinterland before 1860 AD, but after this year, Suifenhe became a border city. In the tenth year of Emperor Wenzong Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty, Tsarist Russia forced the Qing dynasty, which was troubled internally and externally, to sign a treaty, which stipulated that the Qing dynasty ceded about 400,000 square kilometers of land east of the Ussuri River to Tsarist Russia. Suifenhe City is a veritable border town. Heilongjiang Province has an area of about 473,000 square kilometers (including Jiagedaqi and Songling District), and Mudanjiang City has an area of about 40,800 square kilometers. The area of Suifenhe City is only 460 square kilometers, which is less than a fraction of the area of Mudanjiang City, and its population is only about 70,000. Why is this river between my country and Russia called Suifenhe? Earlier, this river was called Laibin River, Su Binshui in the Jin Dynasty, and Xiepin River or Libin River in Ming Dynasty. We can see that these names are very similar to Suifenhe. It can be said that Suifenhe is the transliteration of Su Binshui and Xiepinhe, and it becomes Suifenhe if you read it smoothly. Both Xiepinhe and Suifenhe are in Manchu (Jurchen in Ming Dynasty), which means "awl". Due to the topography, the Suifenhe River has a relatively large water drop, very turbulent water, and rich fishery resources. Although Suifenhe does not pass through Suifenhe City (only Beiyuan passes through), the city is still named Suifenhe City in 1926.
Regardless of the size of Suifenhe City is not large, but because it is located on the border between my country and Russia, it is a very important land port between the two countries. Heilongjiang Province is an important commodity grain base in my country, and Suifenhe City is one of the closest cities in my country to Vladivostok (Vladivostok) in Russia, and the distance between the two places is only 230 kilometers. Vladivostok (Vladivostok) was originally the territory of our country, but after being occupied by Russia, it became Russia's most important city in the Far East. Vladivostok means to rule the East.
