Roman History includes the history of the city of Rome and the history of ancient Roman civilization. Roman history has a great influence on the modern world, especially the history of the Catholic Church, and Roman law has influenced many modern legal systems.
The traditional Roman founding date was 509 BC to 27 BC . After Marcus Trentius Varo, Latim, the city and surrounding areas, has been inhabited since then, with almost no interruption.
Excavations conducted in 2014 show that a wall had been built long before the city was officially established.

Archaeologists found a wall and pottery fragments date back to the 9th and early 8th centuries BC, with evidence that people arrived at Mount Palatine as early as the 10th century BC.
The ruins of the San Oppono region were crucial to understand the relevant processes of monumentation, urbanization and national formation in the late ancient times. The ruins of the Temple of San Opono date from the 7th to the 6th centuries B.C. are the oldest temple remains known in Rome.
Roman history can be divided into the following periods: prehistoric and early Rome, covering the earliest inhabitants of Rome and the legend that Romulus established it.

Etrusian Reign and imperial period, according to tradition, Romulus was the first of the seven kings
Roman Republic , which began in 509 BC, when the king was replaced by the elected local magistrate. This period was marked by the massive expansion of Roman territory. In the 5th century BC, Rome gained dominance in the Latin region. With the Punic Wars from 264 to 146 BC, ancient Rome replaced Carthage and became the overlord of the western part of Mediterranean .
Roman Empire After the Republic, it declined with the rise of Julius Caesar. After a period of civil war and the adopted son of Caesar , Octavia defeated Mark Anthony in 27 BC, from all aspects, the Roman Empire ended.

With the collapse of Western Roman Empire , the power of Rome declined, and eventually became part of Eastern Roman Empire and became the principality of Rome until the 8th century. At this time, the city was reduced to a small part of its original state, and was looted several times between the 5th and 6th centuries, and even temporarily completely reduced its population
Medieval Rome was characterized by its break with Constantinople, forming the Papal State . The pope tried to maintain influence in the emerging Holy Roman Empire, and during the ignorant period, the population of Rome dropped to 30,000.
With the limited success of East-West split and appointment disputes, the Pope did gain considerable influence in its medieval heyday, but with the split between the Pope Avignon and the West, the city of Rome was weakened to an insignificant level, and its population dropped below 20,000.

Rome declined to a completely insignificant level during the Middle Ages, and construction activities also decreased, which ensured that the ancient Roman materials in the center of the city were preserved, some were abandoned, and some were still in use.
Roman Renaissance took place in the 15th century, when Rome replaced Florence as the center of artistic and cultural influence. In 1527, the city of Rome was destroyed and the Roman Renaissance came to an abrupt end, but the Pope reiterated his position in the Anti-Reformation movement, and the city continued to flourish in the early modern times.
Rome was annexed by Napoleon and became part of the First French Empire between 1798 and 1814.

Modern history, from the 19th century to the present period. After the Allied invasion of Italy, Rome was once again besieged and bombed several times. On August 14, 1943, it was declared an open city.
Rome became the capital of The Italian Republic (founded in 1946), with a population of 4.4 million (as of 2015; there is a population of 2.9 million within the city limits), making it the largest city in Italy. It is one of the largest urban areas in the EU and is listed as a global city.
Archaeological evidence shows that there were signs of human inhabitation in the Roman region at least 5,000 years ago, but the younger dense layers of debris cover up the Paleolithic and Neolithic sites. The ancient foundations of the city are also obscured by legends of the Roman origin of Romulus and Remus .
